just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
so i got my 220v HF tig.
i plugged it to the wall and bam. it short circuited the electricity at my house. i got it as new from EBAY HF before about 3 mounts ago. they shipped it to my uncles house and then he shipped to me (to israel). so it took some time. i'm gonna open it in a few minutes to see whats going on inside. can anybody help me and tell what to check? thanks. |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
Did it come with a plug or did you install it?

Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
"Israel 230V 50 Hz, Jerusalem 220V 50 Hz"
North America is 60hz my friend.. I'm not an expert with AC voltage but that's my first guess as to what went wrong.. |

Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
but welders have a bridge rectifier that makes it dc so the htz wont matter

Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
Are you sure you didnt mix up L1 or L2 with the ground wire?

Find the HF card smell the boxes if you smell a burned area you fried the HF relays and you will need to have it replaced its just a couple plugs and pci style slot or just plugs or pci. What amp service is it wired into? |

I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS:
i used a volt meter to check continuity between the power and ground wires. and THERE IS CONTINUITY. |

still wouldn't have work.
Now if you had a OHMmeter....... |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
I'm sure he is using a multimeter, ass ::)
|
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
damn guys he said he checked continuity... its not like he said he checked the voltage
so he should have said ohmmeter or multimeter ::) |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
It's HF so hell you could set it on fire and bring it back and they wouldn't give you any hassles and just give you your money back no questions asked. They know the ---- they sell so their used to getting alot of ---- coming back. I'm surpised that if they had a extended warranty they'd probably just give you another item of what you just bought. :P

Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
did it trip the smaller breaker or did it trip the main breaker.
I am not sure how Isreal is but most 220+ volt breaker I have seen has a 90ish main breaker then devide into smaller one for different circuit. Try to plug it into outlets that has a bigger load rating ( A/C, washing machine and such) and see what sup. BTW the 50/60 hz thing will NOT trip any breakers. man i remember getting shock by 220 volt felt completely different then 120volt here :X :l |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
it wont work.
the welder is shorted inside. :-\ |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
the plug shoulv have 4 terminals, and kinda look like a cross.
ground goes on the bottom, outside is a 120v hot leg, middle is the nuetral, and the other is the other 120v hot leg. perty simple |
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
220v plugs from 220v based places have threee prongs, ground/live and neutral :P
|
Re: just got my Hf tig AND IT JUMPED the electricity at my house :S
in isreal, is there a 3 wire 220 volt system in residential meaning. 2 hots(120/220) and a neutral/ground going into the panel or is it like the u.k's 2 wire system 1 hot (220) and a ground/neutral.
