sorry to jack tus thread but anyone have a suggestion for the same 300$ price range for a good mig with gas capability. prety much somethin i can use on my car/piping/exhaust/manifolds

no for 300 u will not get much else besides flux core madness,

a descent gas mig can be had for around 500

Smileytools, maker of your favorite DC TIG/ARC/Plasma cutter, also carries a 160 amp DC TIG for $279 plus shipping. Prolly run ~$310 to the door, then buy the tank and the wall plug. That's as cheap as any MIG, and... I'd much rather TIG, personally.

im in a situation; i'm about to start making ---- for a friend and need an ok tig. i cant decide if i want to get this one you speak of or the plasma cutter/tig as i know i could use the plasma cutter i'd really like to get that 200 amp monster smiley sells. that thing looks delicious
for now though i'm going to use the guys snap-on scratch start 200a dc tig; i hope it doesn't suck; there's no variable current just like 4 settings and you have to do the gas manually

I'm thinking of buying an arc welder from a flea market for like 50 bucks......i'm planning on using it to make a go-kart ....do you think that is sufficient? any tips on what to look for? thanks

arc welder would be fine, scratch start is a bitch if you dont have an auto darkening helmet.

I have Miller CST 280 and that ***** expensive! I use it for work, ( tax deductable) but it doesnt come with the torch, gas and other stuff.. and thats going to cost about 3-500 more dollars..
