how possible is it to weld my own exhaust with...

I have the cheap 90 Amp flux wire welder from harbor freight. I'll probably get the 3" mild steel 16 gauge piping for my exhaust system. I was told that my welder would burn through the piping and that I would be better off brazing it. What do you guys think?

search ;D
i have the same welder and i just did a bunch of stuff with it.
downpipe, wastegate elbow, test pipe. grab some and practice on it first. it's easy once you figure out the correct settings.
oh and i used the crappy pipe you get at vatozone

90 amps is plenty to weld thin wall tubing with. Don't braze it, that's how Midas etc makes their money (repeat customers). If you're careful you can use a series of tacks to hold the piping together and then once you've built the seam up with tacks you can go over and lay a bead on top. This is what I did at least with my cheapo bottom of the barrel Craftsman flux core.

---- brazing. Tack then weld. It's only tubing, 90 amps is more than enough.

i have to same welder. just put it on low, you wont have too much of a problem burning though, but it will happen some. just add more weld then :y

Cool, thanks guys. I was beginning to worry that I spent all that money on a welder to not be able to use it for this project. I'll be sure to get pics and ---- of the finished setup.

same as Bryantaylor said. Flip that sucker on low and turn your speed down low. I've got a HF dual mig and it's setup for fluxcore. I've welded everything with that beast. You'd be suprised what you can weld with that welder.

Definitely... I've welded front wheel spindles up from 2 pieces of 3/4" rod at a 75* angle for my racing mower which sees 30mph corners with no suspension everything welded solid. And I'm not talking beveled edge welds... I'm too lazy for that ----. Those things were straight up butt welds. I've made 3 sets and not one has broken. Little welders ftw!

fluxcore seems to be more aggressive for the amperage too
