If he tried it, and it didn't stick, he would know it was stainless, wouldn't he? It's called narrowing down your options, you ------- dumbnuts.

Ryan just hit it with some sandpaper then toss some water on it. Then let it sit outside for a day or two. Just make sure you take it down to bare betal cause there may be some coating still on it if it's aluminized. Aluminized just feels different to me. Hey just curious..since you decided to sell your project there's a real deal jdm '88 crx shell in Milwaukee for 2500 already registered. It's just missing the engine and tranny but besides that it's a complete rolling shell with a full interior along with everything else. Didn't know if you'd be interested or not.

anyone who relies on google for their education is a tard. :1 this thread is a prime example of the misinformation that the intraweb provides. there are a lot of different grades of stainless. i've seen some that are 300 series that are slightly magnetic. i'm speaking from "first hand experience" not from "intraweb search engine experience". don't believe anything your read and only believe half of what you see.

Nitric Acid Reaction
Stainless steels from non-stainless steels.
1. Place a piece of the steel in strong nitric acid (20% to 50%) at room temperature, or a drop of the acid on a cleaned surface of the steel.
2. Test standard samples in the same way, ie stainless and non-stainless steel samples.
3. Non-stainless steels will quickly be attacked, a pungent brown fume is produced. Stainless steels are not affected. Compare result with standards.
4. Wash samples thoroughly afterwards

You guys are ------- retards. Find someone selling stainless steel exhausts made out of anything but 300 series stainless. You won't. Is 300 series stainless steel magnetic? No. So is the magnet test valid under said circumstances? Absolutely. But congrats on posting 10 more posts than needed

SS all has some magnetic properties as far as I have seen. They may not be as magnetic as regular mild, but it is there. That said, the difference should be pretty obvious when compared with a magnet.

Take a cheapo stainless cup brush, dunk it in water, and watch it rust. Take a magnet to it, and it will pull to a magnet.
Just because it's "stainless" doesn't mean that it isn't magnetic at all. Even wood is magnetic...otherwise it wouldn't fall to the ground when you drop it.
Likewise, how many times have you seen "stainless" steel forks that will get some rust on them? They may not pit and rust away like mild steel, but they can sometimes get some rust on them.
