Homemade vaporizor?

Homemade vaporizor?
Hello!
I have a crappy china-made budget iron from walmart. We thought, how could you mess up an iron? Well obviously there's a way. The iron went to hell and it was recently replaced with a fancy black n decker.
I always enjoy DIY projects. Have a DIY turbo kit for the car, grow my own edible mushrooms/salvia/phalaris arundicea/morning glory, am working on a DIY projector, etc etc. Practically whatever I can build on my own, I want to build on my own.
Well the other day I says to myself, "I would sure like a vaporizor to smoke my tobacco, salvia, and whatever other things I may come across to be a bit easier on my lungs." About the same time I noticed our crappified iron, and decided I could probably use it in a homemade vaporizor. Of course I would take the heating element out of the iron...
Has anyone tried a similar project? Any tips? Anybody know where I can get an accurate thermostat that I can use to turn off the heat source when it gets to the optimal temperature for whatever chemical I am vaporizing? What glass isn't too porous so that the chemicals stay in the air instead of sticking to the glass?
Thanks folks

Re: Homemade vaporizor?
I saw one where a guy had used a heat gun a cigar tube and a glass jar to make a vapouriser. It was on overgrow before it got shut down. It worked in a fairly similar way to a bong but instead of sucking, you blew hot air through with the vaporiser which inflated a large bag with cool smoke.
You've reminded me how much i need to make one. My lungs are utterly fucked from all the weed i've been smoking recently.

i used to stuff my weed through the carb in my glass bowl and then just heat it from the bottom with a lighter. Worked great. Then i'd take a tiny screw driver and get all the weed out and sell it to losers at school who thought they were cool

i've made one out of a light bulb. FInd a tweaker and get them to make you one, same concept. I've also made one out of an air popper. Strangely enough a beer bottle fits in an air popper nice, use a MGD bottle (clear glass). Takes maybe 15-30 seconds for the air popper to start vaporizing the pot.

By heating the weed, not burning it, you reduce the amount of tar produced from incomplete combustion and if you keep the heat fairly low you vapourise the volatile chemicals (the good bits) without burning the plant material, your lungs don't end up quite as f@cked.
Using a bong just cools the smoke, but you still get all the tar etc.
