I started with the design of the frame in AutoCAD, on 14 October last year, started building the actual frame on the 9th of December. I had a rolling chassis on the 7th of January.

damn man, ive been wanting to build a d16z6 dune buddy (sand rail) but dunno if your frame would be very good for the suspension of sand dunes... how did you figure out if it was strong enough for road use, autocad have something like that? cuz i wanna design my while project before attemting to make it. LET ME KNOW!

No, AutoCAD can not do structural analysis... there are software that can, but very expensive....
We are going to be sending 2 car's to the SABS, they do all sorts of tests, the last of which is a crash-test at 60km\h, that is how one knows the car is strong enough.

I'm using AutoCAD for the design of the frame.... but yes. it is basically a roll-cage on wheels. Something most people do not realize is that when the car get crash-tested, the idea is not to see how little damage there are to the car, but more to see what the steering column does..... IE, the frame need to be designed such that it will prevent the steering wheel from moving backward, towards the driver, they can't care less if the car is a total write-off. gees come to think about it, if a normal 4-door sedan where ever to be T-boned by this car..... I'd rather not be in the sedan....

Solid works professional has a full version of finite element analysis. It is bad ***. I would go with solid works over Inventor or Pro E any day of the week. We just did a bunch of research on all the software packages at work.
