Once the evaporator is cooled down it would probly last a lil while. It would last longer than a bottle of refrigerant.

For real once the air gets warm stop at the gas station and get another ------- bag.

Than why don't car makers do that because it won't work.
If you even know how it worked you would see how stupid you sound
I estimate that you may have cool air for a couple of mins at best with that method.

I know exactly how A/C works, the expansion of the compressed refrigerant removes heat from the evaporater core. So why wouldnt my method work?

because ice isn't going to displace that much heat before it melts.

Simple fact that even if you filled your whole trunk with ice and water, it won't last long.

I don't think you realize how much energy you have to remove from the passenger compartment to get it cool.

Yah, you guys might be right. I think it deserves some experimentation though.

It could work if the coil was the correct size, but still for a short time only. I think it would go through ice like crazy and not be worth it.

a/c is capacity is measured in "tons"

1 ton means it can melt 1 ton of ICE in a 24 hour period. I would think a car's ac is at least a couple tons of cooling.

you would have to play with the water and air flow if you want max cooling capacity.
