Indeed, making exhaust is tedious (for me at least). It took me about 20 hours to assemble. The fun part (measuring, cut saw, tack weld, fit test under the car, gravel in the butt crack, repeat) took about 12-14 hours. Finishing the welds took 6-8 hours. I thought that finishing the welds would go faster but I’ve realized 2 things:

1-Welding tube to tube isn’t easy as it seems because melt through is always on the edge.
2-The bigger the piece becomes as you weld to it, the more difficult it becomes do a good welding job. It is easy to weld 2 one foot piece of tube together, to weld a lined up flange at the end of a 10 feet exhaust line standing off balance without a helper hand is something else. Even harder if you have no working table like the dumbass that I am. Hats off to everyday welders / fabricators, you guys rock.

Muffler is a cheap brand (flowsound). Tube and bends comes from exhaust direct performance in Ontario, Canada. Good prices, good service, good delivery. Magnaflow hi flow cat (might get ditched sometimes). Flat black BBQ paint for the line, black regular tremclad for the muffler (ran out off hi temp paint, duh).

This is for a Gen 2 teg turbo setup (yawn, yes one more) so I don’t worry about sound level. If I get annoyed by the cops, I’ll put a resonator (read test tube) instead of the cat.

I still have the downpipe - flex to fabricate, I’ve ordered a short radius elbow, I’m unable to clear under-engine /crossmember linking brace.

Rock on

Ha, alll these things are so true when fabbing exhausts, its very tedious. I recently switched from flux core to a Lincoln gas setup, my welds have improved exponentially. Nice work, it looks great.

On the setup I did on my DA I ended up just removing that brace, there was pretty much no way to fit the downpipe down there without doing so. I had it pretty close but I was afraid it would vibrate against that peice so i just pulled it all together and refabbed a better fitting downpipe. Dont think it really had any affects on handling.

nice work.
I am doing one from 2.1/2 to 3" with a magnaflow muffler, and one resonator. I wanna go stainless, or aluminized

I'm not trying to get off topic here but how do you guys keep the exhaust from sagging towards the ground right at the bend that turns right (looking from the rear) My exhaust is too low to the ground.

I tried zip ties once on my CRX but they melted so I bought some bungie tie down straps and it held great for over a year.

Man the aluminized steel is a pain in the *** to tig incase you're thinking of tigging it. Mig and Argon/Co2 mix seems to work better with that stuff. At least for me.
