FLux

So i've been playing with my fuckscore adn it basicly just spits doo doo balls. I cant get a god dman bead withthis thing to save my life, now I've played with a stick welder for abotu 20 minutes and even in that short time I managed to lay out a bead. granted it looked like ---- but it was still continuous. Its your standard $99.99 fluxcore from HF and ive heard that they do 10 times better with better quality flux is this true? what should i be looking for specifily thats different from the cheap ---- they put in it?

Or do i just fail?

My HF fluxcore welder had a pretty erratic wire feed, it would feed, stop, feed, slow down, etc. I had to increase the clamping force on the wire more than the max adjustment and it works fine now. Make sure that your wire feed speed is consistent first.

I bought some flux wire from Home Depot and it is noticeably better than the HF stuff.

Clean the pipe
spray some anti-spatter on it
wrap non welded areas afew times with aluminum foil.

AFA the doo-doo balls you're going to have to get the heat VS the wire feed speed VS your travel speed correct.
Good flux core wire is best.
The best way to do it is find some of the slightly harder to find .023 flux wire. Its alot better

Re: FLux

wire speed is probably the biggest part of why it isnt working right. i have a pretty nice mig and even with gas i was having some issues with it. i changed the setup for holding the wire spool on cause it was too hard to spin the spool, then cleaned the rollers with scotch brite and clamped it down real tight. now it lays robot looking welds. its badass.

Re: FLux

i also had to increase the clamping on the wire. i used a nut between the arm and the bolt. i think it was a header nut from a honda i used. maybe later i'll take a pic

$99 fluxcore?

Where?

I'm buying one! I'm sure i have enough parts laying around to make that loot?

i think harbor freights cheapest one is $99, but it doesnt have the ability to run gas, so you can never step up to better stuff with that one.

You could always weld and spray that Lincoln antisplatter spray at the same time. This is HMT you know. lol. People do some pretty ghetto things here. lol.

Re: FLux

I hate the HF flux cores.
The liners are trash, the wire pokes through them & splits them when they feed if you're not careful, needing replacement. The feed sucks, the rollers are an absolutely terrible fit for the wires. The rollers are for metric sizes, yet the units are sold with imperial wire sizes, and you can only buy imperial in the US. Meaning you have to clamp the dogshit out of the rollers to get a desent feed. Which winds up too hard and makes the wire pile through more than it should. It also crushes the hollow flux wire.

Mine didn't last a year of making exhausts before it just quit. Cut the wires off it landfilled the SOB. If you're going to make one birdshit exhaust they're alright. If you ever plan on using them after that, but something better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
