Default First ever manifold - Migged log

Hi guys,

Just a few pics of the log manifold I'm working on at the moment. It's my first one so I've still got a lot to figure out.

First I crushed and tacked the 2 90s

I then cut and tacked 2 90s to make a sort of collector

I had to extend the 90s slightly so I cut some straight pieces and welded them on. I welded it on the inside also.

I then welded the collector up. Got quite good penetration but I also welded it up on the inside.

Hose clamps to see what it looked like.

Cleaned up a bit.

I've just cut the pipes for runners 2 and 3.

The turbo has arrived so I'm looking to see the best way to mount the turbo.

Just a question. I've got a dummy head, could I bolt on the head flange and weld directly on the head? Also what about the turbo flange, should I bolt it up to the turbo and weld it up?

Thanks for looking, sorry about the camera (phone cameras suck!)

Yep, bolt it to the head and turbo when welding.
If you make another, just ------ the merge out some and you can do without the short pieces. You will just have to hammer the outlet to match the flange a little bit. Not sure if any of these pictures will help, but here are some

btw, you picked one that is a real bitch to make as your first.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah it's a little tricky but I'll get it in the end. I should have cleaned it before I welded the 2 short pieces but I guess I kind of rushed it. I'll make sure everything else is clean before I finish it up.

Just had another look at the prelude engine bay and it's gonna be kind of tight with a T3/T40e in there. Might need to make a smaller torque mount. I'll get some more pics up soon.

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks man! Those pics are a real help! Not sure about the position of the WG flange cos it's quite tight in the 4th gen lude bay, but I'll have another look tonight.

I'm gonna plasma cut the holes for runners 2 and 3. Should have pics of that soon.

I love mig'd manifolds. Mig welds just have that home-brewed aspect that a clean tig weld doesn't have. lol
