Re: Fabbed up my first dP
yeah even i weld with flux and im new to this ---- and it looks nothing like that. you need to learn how to make an actual bead. it kind of looks like you just kept stopping and going at it over and over again ...................you live in R.I. right?
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
alumized pipe im betting too.
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
'yea since im using a harbor freigt welder i go over the twice just incase i have any pin holes yep aluminized i would get going for a good 2-3 inches then burn threw
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
yo you live in R.I.?
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
yea Warwick Cranston line

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
Well when the car is done acouple of my boys were gunna cruz up there for some off your night races prov is getting to hot
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
what night races in newport ? where did you get that idea? good luck the Dp has pinhole leaks written all over it
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
o-well i say ---- it only way to learn is to do it but i def wouldnt mine getting togeather the car will prolly be runing again this week i have to throw in the 2.5 bar and 880's and start my tune. im always up for new tips and ---- how did that topmount come out?

|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
get rid of your hf flux, go get some tractor supply flux. it's much better than the stock roll, .030 flux will work. how far from the work is your tip? wire wheel off the alumized coating, and go over the flux before you run a second bead.
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
to get a consistant ark im about 1inc to 3/4 inch off any closer i burn threw but this is all on high nextime ill go low and pick up wire speed

Look close at the joints. Namely near the filter. That weld was done with a canadian tire special flux core welder. For such a cheap ass welder that was given to me... The machine can weld nicely. I've made numerous exhausts for friends and air intakes with it. Clean your metal and clean your welds after. Chizzle and wire wheel. I did not use any grinding disk. Just wire wheel.

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
you want to keep the tip close to the material, it doesn't let the wire melt lopsided and walk your weld like a drunken hobo down an alley NEARLY as much as 1" away. 1/4" is ideal iirc, i've gone up to 1/8" away for some precision small stuff/tacking, it's much more controlable.
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
Yeah, when I weld I like to get that *bzzzzzzzzt* sound sort of echoing in the cup. Just listening to it you can hear how much of a better arc you're getting when close. It can gunk up the cup and tip rather quick but your weld will be so much better and the heat just seems to soak in faster. Maybe I'm an idiot for explaining it like that.. but I've done a bit of flux coring on my little Craftsman (10+lbs of wire) and that's just my experience.

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
keep weldin man
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
tip cleaning won't effect your weld like 1" of actively molten metal will..
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
lol

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
What kinda welding is that first of all i would never used flux wire on exhaust pipe, used solid core L-56 wire with 75-25 gas and leave a 1/16 gap between each piece of your your exhaust pipe and weld a downward pass it will look alot better, trust me, i weld for a living i know my ---- when it comes to welding If you dont have a solid core wire welder find someone who does, b/c after awhile that flux wire weld that you put down will start to rust you will have holes throw it and then it breaks off
|

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
i dont care if it HMT style the better it looks the more respect
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
Well if i my welder could except gas i would use it b/c i dont have any 220v in my house so flux it is for me primmed the heat wrapped
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
Your clothes drier is 220v.With a gas mig welder i can do beautiful bead on alluminized pipe.At the shop we use co2 for gas and i can still make pretty welds on that stuff.I have never used a flux core but it looks like a mig welder set way too hot and no gas.Find someone who knows how to weld and let them give you pointers. No amount of practice makes up for experience. They can show you the right distance/heat/etc and get you on the right path.It will save you alot of time and welding supplies.

Re: Fabbed up my first dP
New Update NO Leaks from what i can hear and see exhaust sounds great now
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
No leaks = good job in my book. Everyone starts somewhere!
|
Re: Fabbed up my first dP
looks like a seagull ---- all over you DP....
why not practice on some scrap flat bar or even your old exhaust :P hope that ---- falls off on the freeway :y |
