I cut mine for my D-series.
I also cut my headers for my 350. The 350 is especially nice b/c you don't have to cut any bolt holes, so the 3 sets of ports all seal by themselves relatively independently.

I looked at my exhaust gasket and noticed in the 2 upper furthest corners that exhaust was leaking out. The head flange was shaved JUST BEFORE, and it still leaked. I'm really suspicious now.

It was surfaced before and I pulled it to have a crack welded up and noticed a leak on the gasket. So it looks as if it warped while on the head.
I want to cut it and I think it WILL seal better too Snafu.
