downpipe clearance SUCKS
 

hey i was wondering if someone on here could make me a downpipe just so i can drive the car to an actuly exhaust shop... here are the condition of what i need..

the total clearance from turbo to ac comp is exactly 3inch

and yes the oil flange has been moved since those pics were taken.. but i need a down pipe to fit in that 3inch gap. so let me no if someoen can help thanks

No body can build you that and have it fit unless its a total freak accident.

well i dont want it to fit right.. i just want it to direct the exhaust gas downward so i can geto a garage 15 min drive from here

Push it, Pull it. Walk there and get them too. YOu want to wait 2 weeks for someone when you can get a ride to the shop and have them do it.

exactly it gets reallu humid here.. i need ac... and i originally had the turbo the other way... but it wouldnt fit. the charge side would hit the ac like about 2inch in... so i dont have a choice about the directions.. and i will get a new manifold befor i get rid of the ac

That's about how mine looked too, I initially was going to be running internal gate, but due to fitment issues with the compressor had to switch to external wastegate.

Here's a pic, you can't see it too well, but I thankfully had a friend that had some good fabbing skills and was able to make a downpipe for me.

and yea my hood comes easy.. i mean its held on by hood pins since my last hood got crushed and the mounts broke :( but the cops would most deffintly pull me over for teh ride its 5.25 miles from my house to tehre mostly side streets.. but i needa go threw framingham center and cross over a highway.. how ever.. if weather stay true..... this sat is gonna be 65 out. and i drive a sol. so i can just pop the top and put the windows down so the fumes wont be to bad.. and the hood is a vented hood anyway so it should let most of it out and no get to hottt

any recomendations on what to put infront of teh a.c comp so it doesnt get beating by the direct flow of exhaust gas.. i was thinking the stupid heat sheild of the stock mani. it would atleast channel the gas's downward.

start smashing the DP down with a hammer to force fit, Ravage style
dunno if he still has picks but his was too close to the little nipple for the hydro cluth (on the other side),
we smashed it down like there was no tomorrow

got it off ebay.. my luck the day i got the turbo in. i realized the flange was diffrent and not the one that the guy showd me .. so i did the noob thing post up on here and sure enough in about 5 min's the guys of hmt had found me 3-4 i beleive.. comes off a ford. i got all teh peice to. both inlet side flanges and gaskets..only prob was flange ur talking about was origianly about a foot long i had to cut off a massive section..besides its tit

Why not buy a flex pipe 2" and curve it by hand to take exhaust gaz to the rear.
Just spot weld it to the ex side and you should be able to go without being much loud.

I think if he was able to spot weld a peice of flex he could make his wn DP becuase he would have a welder. I have a fealing that is his #1 problem for not doing it himself.

I cant believe we are having a discussion about this. Here are some options. Why dont you just call the damn tow truck and get it towed there? Find someone with a AAA card, and it would be free! Otherwise find someone with a truck and go rent a U-Haul towing thing and two it to the welder's shop.

C'mon buddy, its not that hard. Just a matter of doing it.

I had the same problem with a freinds car. it was a pita. 3" from the flange to the back of the compressor. I made it fit with no beating or bashing. it just takes some imagination and jdm bends. :) https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...c/DSCF0194.jpg

i cut a straight pipe at an angle / then flipped them over each other to create a straight 90

no we did have to sacrifice one bolt to get it to clear. but its been on his car since november and it hasn't leaked yet. I can't tell if your being sarcastic or serious but who cares. I did what I could do with the space available. I think it turned out ok. once we wrapped it with exhaust wrap it had a little less than a credit card width from the compressor to the dp. the dumptube was quite a task as well.

Yeah I had a ---- of a time cutting a corner with my 3" dp like that right off of the compressor and had to sacrifice a bolt and had to stud another

I dont think itll leak but we'll see

k get t 3inch pipe cut in half at a angle after that u have a 90 weld it weld done flow = ----

This is my attempt at searching, I found this old thread and decided to bring it back to life rather than start a new one. I'm in doing the same thing and would like to see some pics of completed dp's with a/c. help a nig nog out.
