Default crhome molly tubing

my buddy gets a 10ft pole for $5 at his work, and i was just wondering if it is strong enough for a roll cage. caz i just got a corvair and i want to put a roll bar in it. thanks

Yes, but cromo is pretty hard ----. It's the hardest mild steel alloy you can weld IIRC. It pretty much has to be TIGed. 5ft for $5? It's usually $4-5 per foot.

For a roll bar it would need to be 1 3/4" .083
and for a cage it will need to be 1 5/8" .083

And yes it runs about $4.50ft, I get mine from here http://www.chassisshop.com/

It has to be tigged to pass tech, best to use er80s2 filler rod. Pretty cool stuff.

I would double check the wall thickness and everything. $5 for a 10ft section seems a little to good to be true.

Unless you know your tig welding, it'll cost you more in the long run to have someone weld it in, where mild can be mig'd in.

From how I've heard it, street cars get mild, race cars get chromoly.
