If it makes you feel better, a guy at my shop got a blood blister under his finger nail, And decided to take a 1/16" drill on the press and "carefully" drill through his nail to pop it.
He got through the nail, and quite a bit more.
So, dont feel too stupid.

i've drilled through my thumb once as well, but no, you dont nessicarly only do that once....
