The build your own tig thread.

Re: The build your own tig thread.
I think for the main machine I am going to build something like this. I want to be able to use it as a 4 transformer unit as well so it can be used on 110v normal house plug in. I also will be using switches to bring each transformer online and then use the big chopper circuit as out foot pedal control.I am also going to use a dimmer switch, cap, and the big honking SCR instead of the chopper set up they are using for simplicity.

We are also going to need one of these(make sure you get all the collet, collet body and cup.

You will also need one of these.

There are a couple of other simple parts that I will post up later.

Re: The build your own tig thread.
If you have an old stick welder then you wont need to do any of the microwave junk. The rest I am trying to make from common junk people probably have laying around or is cheap and readily available. Here is another good link for the microwave transformer stick welder. It explains how to modify the transformers very nicely. Now do keep in mind that if you already have a stick welder you wont need any of this. All you will do is hook that up as your power supply.

Re: The build your own tig thread.
This circuit should be able to be built for less than $10 from parts from radio shack. This is going to control the post flow delay for the argon. I am sure we will need to modify this with a transistor on the output to amplify it to run a solinoid.

Re: The build your own tig thread.
Picked up a few of these earlier today at the local surplus store. They are a little bigger than microwave transformers. I also hot a roll of 10ga wire to rewind the secondaries. I should have a operational stick welder by the end of the day.
