...just get an EGT gauge and do a 5th gear pull. Watch the temps go nuts.

I also dont do extended 5th gear pulls. 4th to 125-130ish, no prob, but 5th is just to hard core for me
I look at it from the point of view of heat build up. If your already pushing the limit on pump gas, and running a civic shorty radiator, (or any stock radiator for that matter), the raw heat build up will quickly tax the capacity of system. In the end, your odds of getting into some serious detonation are much higher after you've ripped 1-4th, then hangout at WOT in 5th for 10-15 seconds or so.
On lower psi setups where your not really pushing the limits of pump gas, your odds are much better.
My old A6 on 6-7psi saw several 5th-->limiter freeway runs.

dont do 5th gear pulls from 4000 to limiter rpm , but changing from limiter in 4th to 5th isnt as hard.

WTF, I NEVER KNEW THIS NO EVER MENTIONED IT TILL NOW!
I mean i always drive 5th gear and push the pedal all the way down to go faster instead of downshifting.. that should be okay right? I race into 5th gear like twice or threes times the most... YA are saying dont push it in 5th gear, like race til 4th and thats it? LEt off? dont go to 5th. But driving in 5th to pass ppl is safe, mayb a lil boost... bc i ve fucked wit ppl on freeway with my 5th gear... but never really pushed it... imma have to let my friends know this...

Let me rephrase this..

350+ whp in a light *** civic hatch or crx over 120mph is a thrill, but I'd like to live til i'm 75, I dont trust our roads around here. Top speed runs are not nearly as thrilling to me as accelerating to 120.

Until you drive a high hp honda and do some healthy rippers you really wont understand. I was pretty freaked out taking my ex-girlfriends built h22 to over 140mph. It still had torque steer over 100.
