Detecting detenation when it already has occured is a bit self defeating, your engine may already be fucked by the time the sensor goes off. Better to predict detenation, by detecting the margin between ignition and piston position. How you might ask, well that is my next pet project. Besides a knock sensor is just a glorified microphone, if there is demand for one I can make it and sell it for 50 bucks probally.

Okay, I own a DSM.. and the people giving you ---- obviously don't know much about how the DSM knocks work or how the ecu interpets it.

First of all, the knock routine in the DSM ecu is realllllyyy gay and almost as useless as Hondas expect that its TOO sensitive to environmental situations. Obviously they left out the part about phantom knock too... an ugly phenomenon on a lot of DSM's.

I watch my EGT's more than I watch knock. I'll know something is going dreadfully wrong a hell of a lot sooner if I see temps creeping into the 1500+ range ... and if the knock count shoots up, the damage is most likely done.

anyway thats my opinion on it... I wouldnt go out of my way to cobble a knock sensor on your civic.

We are doing the same thing.
Custom ECU with knocksensor input to back off timing when knock is detected.
Just a knock sensor buzzer isnt so cool. Unless you can back off the timing really fast.

Anyways main reason for posting.
Anybody know a cheap source for knock sensors.
Our junk yards dont have em.
Im off to search on digi key. Maybe pick it up with the map sensor we need.

Who makes the Honda knock sensor? Maybe call them up and find out who distributes for them...

Might be in the PGMFI Wiki...

definitely interested, ive been interested in wiring one up that i could wire into my user input on my zeitronix controller and just figure out how to read the voltages, if you could boil that up for me id dig it. O0

Probably the most useful information in this post.
