would anyone be interested in a knock sensor setup?

k, a couple local DSM guys have been giving me ---- about that "Honda guys" have no knock sensing (or datalogging) to tune our cars properly... so i was talkin to a guy at my work thats going to school for some computer ---- and he said he would look into if i got him a knock sensor to ---- with...well he has been talking to some people (at school and elsewhere) and is really getting exited about making them cuz he thinks he has it figured out and people seem to want them... he was talking about making them with LED's and/or sound/buzzers that would go off when knock is senced...

so if and when he starts to make these would you guys be interested in getting one?? this is NOT A GROUP BUY nor am i selling them (....yet), just seeing if there would be interest in them. feedback would also be nice, like what you would like to see or for it to do (so far it will just warn that there is knock NOT adjust for it)...

what i got him started on was: A/F guage style 5 LED setup or something and like a peizo siren when the knock is to a certian point...he said it wouldnt be a problem, but im not sure what he is setting up, i will talk to him tomarrow some more.

btw its sounding like this will be in the $100 range, give or take a couple bucks (depending on the price of the sensor its self most likely)...

Education time:

1: What is a knock sensor(i assume from the name that it senses some kind of knocking)?

2: I wouldn't be able to hear the knocking, hence the need for a sensor. What kind of damage is happening because of the knock?

3: Don't obd1 cars have them already?

1) knock = pinging = detination.....need anyother explination?

2) if you can hear the knock its pretty bad....and possibly too late...

3) yes, but they are not used in the way that will show you knock...infact some dont read above certin RPMs... also the knock sensor i have is off a 89-92 JDM B16A OBD0...

does he realize he would have to vary the alarm point by rpm? otherwise it is mostly useless. The knock threshold goes up with rpm. If he can do this, I'd be interested. I just posted about this on pgmfi yesterday!

well as soon as he figures this ---- out beta testing will be done on my vehicle...also the knock sensor i provided was a Honda B16A unit...so it shouldnt be a problem to use the Y8 unit...
