Willem eprom questions HELP ME GUYS!

ok so here is what i have, i have a willem eprom with an sst 27sf512 chip. Here is what they are to lessen the confusion...

I am used to using a C1 Atmel AT29C256 Chip, and my eprom has been battle tested for that chip and it worked great, but with a new computer cray sent me, it came with the sst chip.

So here is my dilemma, on saturday when i was trying to program the chip, i couldnt. My computer was seeing the device and everything but wouldnt let me erase the chip. Kept telling me to switch to 'erase chip blah blah switch to chip blah blah, and then change jumpers so it was 12.75v'. On my eprom i couldnt find anything to change the jumpers to 12.75v but did change the dips for erasing the chip it told me to. Now i plug my eprom into my computer and when i try and burn to the chip it is telling me 'hardware error; check power and connection'. This didnt happen saturday, and only started telling me that late in the day on sunday....

So what do you guys think? Maybe my parallel port cable is fucked and i should buy another? Maybe my usb cable is fucked and i should buy another? Maybe my eprom is fucked and i should get another? Maybe i should go back to the C1 Atmel AT29C256 Chip bc i kinda know what im doing there? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out ladies and gents...just need this ---- so my car will start:(

thanks for all your help!

i don't know if this will help, but the 2 programmers I've had, I've always had to burn in dos. They would either not work in xp or half burn chips...

Re: Willem eprom questions HELP ME GUYS!

see the 2 yellow jumpers to the right of the green zif socket in the picture you posted? there's a third one that you use for at29c256 chips, but don't use for the sst's, you have to use that when you erase the sst's, look in your willem software cd for jumper configurations. it won't erase without the third jumper in the correct place. sst's aren't like the atmels, you HAVE to erase them before you can reprogram them, unlike that atmels that you can keep writing over, but hey, for 1.00 per chip as oppposed to the 6+ bucks for atmels, it's well worth the extra trouble. i started using the sst's about a year ago and it took me a day or 2 to figure them out with the willem, but i've used them ever since and like them a lot more than the atmels now. don't forget to set the offset on your burner software at 8000 to program the chip.
