Will I even Need Engine Management

Heres the setup i was gonna do. T25 @ 8psi, DSM450's, HF manifold, SMIC. Will I even need any engine management? If so, what would be the best thing (i am on obd2 ecu and really don't feel like spending all that money on chipped ecu and a tune)

Re: Will I even Need Engine Management

no you dont need anything untill 15 psi or so.

hel yea you need something :1

Re: Will I even Need Engine Management

With 8psi you will need to get it tuned chipped ecu and all. You could use like one of those vafc things to control the injectors. and then retard your distributer some. But now that I'm learning how to tune and use crome, Man retarding the distributer really doesn't do that much

But dude seriously a vafc usaully runs 150+$ a chipped ecu is 150 then you can pay a local tuner to tune your car.

If you don't get it tuned a new motor thats worth having is 500+ getting tuned is cheaper than that and you will be a lot happier with the outcome of your project.

The most important thing in boosting a honda is the engine management. if you don't do it you may as well not do it at all it's a waste of money a waste of your time and a waste of a running engine.

don't burden yourself.

Just bolt that sucker on and rip around for a while. The stock ECU will take care of just 8psi. These pussies don't know what they are talkin gabout.

Cray has a lot more experiance with this stuff than I do. Listen to the man. Remember, Weld your wastegate shut so you don't get a boost leak.

Why would you give me good advice first then tell me to weld my wastegate ----.

Because they think you'd be best off getting a rope.

You will need management. Its the only area where being a cheap bastard will cost you big in future.

think I'm gonna go with the VAFC with a bit of dizzy retardation. Anyone ahve this setup?

Re: Will I even Need Engine Management

Most people here won't agree but honestly for low boost the vafc/safc, greddy blue box thing or even a FMU would be fine....but if you plan on making a good amount of power or turning up the boost....get a good system

Wouldn't he have to at least go for the Vafc/Safc with those 450's?

0b00st0 10-20-2006 04:43 PM

Re: Will I even Need Engine Management

450's don't work to well with the VAFC. You need to have a 3 BAR MAP too.

The VAFC won't be able to take out enough pulse to idle the 450's on the stock MAP sensor.

i disagree!! 450's with an afc should idle fine w/o a bigger map sensor....mine did with no problems and most people that have ran the afc should say the same. you dont need a bigger map sensor for the afc to idle fine with 450's.....thats for sure

You are OBD2, you cant use crome u dumbass, you dont have much of a choice you are most likely going to have to use an AFC or VAFC, if you want to do somthing better than just "retarding the dizzy" you should look into that thing MSD sells, it retards timing per pound of boost.

Isn't the max that you can take out of the pulse with the VAFC 40%. That's going to be really rich. Maybe the O2 correction will care of some more, but it's still going to be rich.

nah engine management is totally optional...just get a lighter and a squirt bottle.

Anyway, I'm gonna go with the S-AFC now and am gonna use RC or Lucas 440cc's. DSM 450's(low impedence) give you bad idle. Screw MSD, i aint paying for something I can do myself

It'll be fine on 8psi. Be sure to always carry a camera in your glove box.

ON civics, dsm injectors witha resistor box tend to give you bad starts and bad idle.

ECUs for sure. The hack costs way more and sucks goats nuts.

Re: Will I even Need Engine Management

You can get the hack for less than 100 and its ok for low boost setups

I can get an ecu from ebay for $30 and chip it for $8.

Seriously man, lets get down to business. Is this setup alright for low boost: VAFC 2 with DSM 440cc injectors.
