Default Will a honda non vtec computer work in a vtec car?

Hey all, sorry if this is a dumb question but i have a 98 civic si d16y8 and got a used hmt kit that came with a obd1 computer modded and chipped tuned with chrome, i'm told for 10psi. However this is off a non vtec d series same year. Would an aftermarket vtec controller work in this application?

i would just get a vtec ECU chipped and mapped and tuned by crome. lless worries that way and it wont screw anything up. and besides that, you have a Vtec, so use a Vtec ECU

well i think that a simple answer is the best. why make it complicated? just get a VTEC ecu if you want VTEC. makes sense

yes the vtec controller will work
is it the smart thing to do...NO
please just use a P28 ECU and get the turbo kit tuned to your car since your fuel/timing maps will be different once vtec engagaes (which i know u can use a vtec controller to do but i dont think you can tune yourself or have a wideband to allow yourself to expirement)

it will work if you use a vtec controller and have it tuned
i would just get a vtec conversion ans solder it in its like 15$ or something and easy to do

find out what board type it is and go to Xenocron Tuning: Fuel Management and DIY Tuning Resource Center for Honda and Acura Performance - Hondata, eCtune, Neptune, Crome, TurboEdit, Uberdata and order a vtec conversion for your ecu and have it put in and your good to go, oh and you might need a new map that has vtec program, just ask chris at xenocron.

1. you dont have a 98 si with a d16y8 you have a 98 civic ex
2. your car is obd2 so you need a obd2-obd1 conversion harness
3. that obd1 chipped ecu can be made to run vtec very easily
4. and that chipped ecu is not from a 98 civic
you have a whole lot of reading to do so please read the stickies and you the search button thank you
