Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

find the part # and ask the dealership to do a reverse look-up.

They are on GM HD trucks though.

As far as know know the one you want only comes on:
Buick GN
and The Turbo TA Firebird

Good luck find any of those at the junkyard.

Good to know. I have just heard something about them being on trucks. Never really looked into it b/c they are <$50 with a pigtail.

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

what about 2 bar sensors? i dont plan to ever go over 20psi so i could get one from an eclipse or something right?

bumblezc 11-23-2006 09:59 PM

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

2 bar is only good till 14.7psi or so.

It's 2bar MINUS Atmosphere, with is 1 bar.

Possibly 2.5bar.

Scott-EP 11-23-2006 10:02 PM

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

oh, i see. 2.5 bar would work then. i havent heard of those being on any cars stock, but maybe

bumblezc 11-24-2006 12:06 AM

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

Can't think of any stokers running 2.5bar. Normally guy buy a Motorolla 2.5bar sensor.

----... is that right? That is certainly cheaper than getting it from Xenocron.

With their $5 handling fee...one unit goes up to ~$20.

Mine come with color coded wiring, clip and instructions. But I know you guys are DIYers :)

Up until about a week ago, Digikey had been backordered on these sensors continuously for nearly 9 months :)

i never noticed that xenocron had them. i would rather support an HMT sponsor than save $2-3

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

i used the frescale site and got one in like 2 days. superfast shipping and not a penny out of my pocket. they even covered shipping

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

GM 3 bar came in '89 Turbo Trans Am, and nothing else.

Motorola 2.5 bar used to be $18/per, plus $5 handling charge, plus actual cost of shipping ($5-9 depending on whatever bottom of the line shipping you chose UPS/USPS/Fedex). That came to $28+ with no instructions and nothing soldered to the pins. Good luck with the Freescale site, hop on it while it's fresh; after about a hundred free 2.5 bars going out they won't send anymore out, ever.

FYI, xenonignog also has carried the JD-approved SMT 2.5 bar variant in the past... it takes an extra hour of dremelling delicately on stock Honduh MAP enclosure to tuck a full sized MPX4250AP inside it so you can smoke high dollar riceboy ass at the streetraces for $$$ by making them think you're running "stock MAP sensor and 10 psi, Y0!"

I don't have any pics handy, but the body is about 1/4 the size of the normal unit. Envision a little flat square of plastic with a small nipple coming up out of the center, and the contacts coming out on the sides SOP-8 style.

Re: what car uses 3 bar map sensors

i highly doubt its a 3bar...its probably a GM map sensor, but not good for reading up to 29psi of boost....
