your maf at redline reads what my wrx reads at 2000rpm with my foot in it.

i can chirp my 1-2 if i want to kill my car, and light all 4 from a stop.

you need +100hp to make that dualcam 2.5 worthy

im lookin for just under 300 hp total. and i know ill kill the trans, ill get over it but right now, going from a turbo honda to this real machine i just cant help but trow myself into the seat on launch, its an amazing car.

So, do i have this straight, i need to get a wrx ecu and put a basemap flash onto it for my engine (honda speak), then tune from there using a tatrix cable and ecuflash? no ecu chippin or anything?

you can reflash your stock ecu, if you have, i believe a jecs ecu. sorta like chippable vs non-chippable

i never said anything about a wrx ecu swapping into your car.
openecu.org does cover 1998 reflashes. go search

You have already failed.

Complex has given you more than you need. Go to the sites he suggested and figure it out.

Some of Complex's info is a little skewed but quite a bit is correct, and for the most part there are no definitions for the USDM pre-flashable Subies that I know of. I have a 97 Legacy GT 2.5L as well, and honestly I abandoned the idea of boosting the stock motor long ago. The head gaskets are ---- and pop like crazy, the sleeves will crack with too much pressure, and they like to eat valves at times too if over-revved. Swapping in an '02-'03 model WRX ecu is not an easy task either, as there are quite a few extras on the WRX's that just aren't there on the older Legacy's. The harness would have to be custom made to the application, but at least then some sensor features and their subroutines could be disabled through EcuFlash. IMHO the only way to turbo this car and have it safe and reliable would be either with a complete WRX/STi swap with harness/ecu included, or the JDM twin-turbo Legacy 2.0 from same 98 family line with it's complete harness and ecu. Subie's can be a real bitch if you don't have the right platform to start off with.
