timing belt broke.... now problems :(

hey guys my timing belt broke on my crx with a mini-me setup. z6 block with a y8 head. So anyways i changed the timing belt and it starts just fine and stays idle really good. Just if i try to gas it acts like its going to die. but now if im moving and try to gas it it seems to work fine. I am guessing it has something to do with air/fuel problems?? any suggestions??

Is your cam timing correct?

gravator 06-29-2007 09:01 AM

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

yeah... lined it up like three different times with the specs. It doesnt backfire when driving or anything either. Its just when its at idle that if i try to step on gas it acts like its going to die.

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

If the timing was off it would be all the time with the dying right?? I check the timing last night to make sure it is tdc and it was...... now if im in third and try to step on the gas to hard then it also acts like it is going to die. But if i creep into it then its ok.... Any suggestions pleaSE! I just broke the timing belt and i get a hand full... Put yet again it is hesitant sometimes when i step on the gas.... I dont have a adjustable cam gear just the stock y8 head cam. I have a z6 block as well FYI. Please help.

Thanks

try a compression test if you'd like, but I'm guessing the timing is still off maybe even a tooth. triple check it, take it off completely and follow a manual's instuctions to the T.

is it possible that you bent some valves when the timing belt broke?

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

Yes, but you would probably hear some noise, and you would def. know if you did a compression or leakdown test.

No you wouldn't.

Maybe the first time, but it would all happen so fast you really wouldn't hear it unless you were paying attention.

I will check on the compression test and get back with you guys... I appreciate all the help... Thanks

Just from experience i have done timing belts on honda sohc engines and the book way doesnt always get it right. One tooth will throw it off alot. Just for grins check the distributor cap and rotor, ya never know!!

check cam timing again and make sue ur using the right marks on the cam spocket ( the two arrow that points toward eachother)

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

dont z6's and y8's have different belts? i have never had a y8 so i dont know for sure, but if you had the wrong belt then that could cause a problem. i think i remember reading to use the belt for the head. dont take that as fact, just use it for research

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

ok so i did the compression and it was 159-160 on all four.... I am using the y8 timing belt... and i have drove it and then check the timing again and tdc with rotorbug pointing at plug 1.... Also the marks on the cam line up and the bottom pulley is in between the three together.... now the timing belt is a little loose... But i dont think it is loose enough to slip.... i had a problem with the tension pulley tighting the belt up...... i had to puch up on the it from the bottom and tighten the damn thing up to make it tighter... Isn't the spring suppose to do this?? i didnt have luck with the spring, so that is why i did the pushing up thing.... Is this a bad idea to push the tension pulley up and tighten??

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

no, make that bitch tight. the spring wont do near enough. also, check your ignition timing. that will let you know if your cam is off

thats ur problem, it it the WHITE mark on the crank pully that indicat the TDC.

Re: timing belt broke.... now problems :(

Ya there should be one by itself that indicates tdc. Also its a D16Z6/Y8 so there's only one cam gear. The arrows can't be pointing to eachother.

Lign the white line up and point the cam gear up.

Well it does have arrows pointing at each other... there are two... one on each side of the cam on the cam cover. :)

there are 2 lines that you line up with the top of the head where the valve cover sits. then there is the word "up". line the marks up with the head and put "up" to the top bring your crank around to top dead center put a y8 timing belt on and make that bitch tight. you should be good to go then

I took it to a shop and they said it was perfectly in time... I changed the fuel filter.. But didnt help at all... Now it idles great just sometimes when i hit the gas it bogs out, likes its not getting enough fuel... I was thinking maybe my fuel pump is going out or maybe the Vortec FMU im using is messing up on me. Any other suggestions???

It was the link sensor that goes to the intake on top. Had to jbweld one side and drill small small hole on other side for vacuum

am i the only one that doesnt know what a link sensor is?

when you took the car to the shop and they check the timing did they use a jumper wire on the service check connector BRN And GRN/WHT located behind the right kick panel?
