Default timing advance?

i will soon be running a y8 with t25, dsm 450's and a p28 on chrom pro (obd1 conversion of course). My question is the person that chipped my ecu and soon to be tuner told me to turn my distributor and advance the timing 12 degrees. I have read and heard a few conflicting things about this and was wondering if u guys could help me clear it up. thanks

I hope hes gonna compensate for that drastic advance by retarding all of the maps by 12 degrees. I am assuming hes referring to peoples theories that there are timing issues in Crome. There was a long thread in the pgmfi forums started by Xenocron, it was titled "Xenocron explores Crome timing issues" or something of the like.

since its a y8, he was prolly referring to the timing issues it has.

maybe he meant to set your dizzy at 12*?

Now i'm getting worried. He told me to take a timing light and turn the distributor until it's 12 degrees advanced but i can't find a correct answer. I have seen him tune many of z6's and one built one that made over 370 hp so i assume he knows what he's talking about. just trying to get some reassurance. Thanks for your help so far.

if he said turn it to 12 degrees of advance then he meant set it at 12 degress, or retard it by 4 degrees, same thing. If he woulda said advance 12 more degress, hes retarded.

it's something with y8's timing issues. off by 4 degrees or some ----.

but yea, ask him to make sure.

edit, here you go
