Default TE and a v-afc

im new to HMT so hello to all... i currently drive a b16 crx and i have a super 60 t3 just waiting to breath some life into it, anyway my plan is to have xenocron burn me a nice rich base map for my pm6 and then run my vtec on a v-afc, so my question is does any one see a problem with doing fine tuning with the afc rather than burning more programs? i mean if i get a base map that is rich and has timing at like .5-.7 deg retard per psi, i should be able to leave that chip alone and put the car on a dyno with wide band and just lean it back out to a more desirable tune with the afc, right?

my set up will be:
garret super 60 t3 ( 7-8 psi on a stock b16a )
drag gen 3 cast manifold
e-bay 31" fmic
1g dsm BOV
custom 2 1/2" piping by yours truly
dsm blue top 450's
pm6 with turbo edit
v-afc

if there is anything that could make this set up better im open to suggestions, thats why i joined HMT. I hope that i dont pop my motor considering this car is a daily driver, but if i do ---- it, in goes the ls motor, then the ls/vtec starts getting built

I wouldn't tune with the AFC controller...

Get a PS9 ECU and run the 1-wire vtec and use TE strictly.

A burner is only like $70 bucks. I have a PS9 sitting next to me that was just chipped. You can get one for around $100 or so.

That's $170 and that is cheaper than a v-afc.

There is no reason to have the VAFC. Hell I will sell you my PS9 becuase I dont need it anymore (getting rid of the Y. PM me if you're interested in that PS9.

You will be able to tune it better with TE and you wont have shitty gas milage or shitty idle.

theres only a couple problems with that first off i have read a whole bunch of ---- and i still dont understand how the 1 wire vtec works with the ps9, i understand that the auto trans part of it can be used to power the vtec solenoid but what wiring changes have to be made to do that..( im currently wired for your basic pr3 b16 set up in a crx si) and even if a burner is only like $70 if i cant figure out how to burn my own programs then what good does that do me? im obviously a noob to the whole rom editing idea, i thought i read enough to understand but i guess not AHHHHHHHHHHH i just want to understand so i can go fast reliably lol..

you have to pin in a wire and run that to the vtec solenoid

burning and tuning is mad easy...play around with TE and you'll see what im talkin about

It's best that you do as much of the fine tuning as possible with turbo edit, but you can also have the afc to do fine tuning. I think it would be a good idea in case you want to make adjustments for hot weather or whatever. You'll be fine with xenocron making you a map and then fine tuning it with the afc, but I would try to get it as close as possible with the turbo edit rom.
Nathan, when's the last time you ran a ps9 to control vtec? Better yet, name someone that's ever got it to work.

Last time I checked dustin (turbohf) has been running the PS9 1 wire vtec on his ls/vtec for quite a while.

As far as hot/cold weather, if you tune it with turboedit your sensors will fix ya as far as weather changes go....reason for the iat and other sensors.

as far as your first post, i'm a little confused...? you're running a chipped pm6 and you're going to use a vafc for vtec? what? to ACTIVATE vtec? I didn't even know the little vafc could do that...? secondly I used to think like you do; just burn a base map and then use the safc (in my case) to do the fine tuning. Well, that's not gonna work. even if you're making minor changes on the vafc it's gonna mess with your timing a bit and it will run like a hack job. spend the time up front to get it running entirely off of turboedit and you will be alot happier. A basemap from someone who knows what they're doing will run your car better than you think.

could he just strictly use the vafc for activating vtec and run the fuel manegment with a chipped pm6?
