yeah unless you hook up some kind of clutch to the alternator (like on A/C) it's still spinning the alternator.

I have little love for those Odyssey batteries. They are a lot heavier than an equivalent-power lead-acid lawn mower battery, and about the same size. And they drain really fast, hook up a laptop and a wideband to the system and leave the engine/alternator off for 5 minutes, the car won't crank. Add in the $$$ pricetag and ---- those things. Even $50-something for the exact same thing in generic brand is a premium.

MISTER PHILL.... what is the amp rating of those 5lb units, and might I obtain one? :)

I have sat and listen to Tre west spit for over ten minutes with the odessey battery and afoprementioned system in my pile of ----. No issues. I dont buy that a laptop and wideband for 5 minutes is gonna kill ----.

Consider this????

Jesus hate you JDM

I can believe the battery draining in 5 min, I used to run a laptop playing music on an aircraft deep cycle battery and I would only get 10 min out of it.

yea spinning, but the load on an alternator that is being used is WAY more than just the alternator being an idling pulley

ever used a generator before? noticed belt squeal ONLY when the ac compressor is in use? or how about belt squeal right after startup while the alternator has its highes load trying to recharge the battery from the drain during cranking and sitting before that

Soooo My 400 Watt amp draws less current running for ten minurtes at 25% than a laptop and a wideband for five??? Not buyin it.

You know, it does sound like it adds up to a bigger draw, since my amp only hits 100 watts whenever the bass hits, which is a comparitively short portion of 10 miutes. Further, my stereo installer probably turned down the gain on my amp because he knows I'm a fat fingered hooligan, so I'm probably getting 75% of what I think I am.

Fixed it for you.

im not arguing your point, but what do fat fingers have to do with keeping an amp running low? accidental max volume?

I had to toss a personal attack into the mix. Spiker would think I didn't love him if I just stuck the to facts.
