question about my ECU

question about my ECU
OK I have p28 that has been chipped by VSV performance in Dallas, TX. Well I opened it up to look at it and the big chip (ROM I am guessing)is just soldered in place with out a socket. Maybe if I post pics it would help.
Anyways, I am soon to be going turbo with my hatch and want to try out uberdata or crome, because I am not rich and cannot afford Hondata. What I am asking is since my ECU has been chipped do I need to just get a socket and burn new ROMS? Sorry if these are stupid questions. I am really wanting to learn.

Re:question about my ECU
You need to unsolder that chip and solder in a socket. That was very gay of them to solder the chip like that. How do they expect you to ---- with it after that? :P

Re:question about my ECU
Ok so could I desolder the chip solder in a socket and place my chip back in the socket until I start messing with uberdata? I dont know if I feel comfortable soldering on my ecu, since it is the only one I have.

Re:question about my ECU
Yes you can do that. Just take your time, use desolder braid and dont leave the heat on the pins for too long.
As you are desoldering use a criss-cross pattern so you arent heating pins near each other.
If you need a ZIF socket, let me know, I can send one out to you.

Re:question about my ECU
So is the ROM the only thing you are changing when you swap chips in? Also since my ecu has been "chipped" does that mean I dont have to worry with adding those resistors and stuff like that if I use Uberdata?

Re:question about my ECU
Actually, its hard to tell from your pics but it doesnt look like they installed the resistors or caps.
They are really there for filtering purposes and arent 100% necessary. It might be a good idea to add them as well. But the HC373 is there so you wont have to touch that.
