Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Did you run a resistor box or inline resistors? If so, it sounds like you may need to lower the fuel settings on the smc. You might be running too rich to idle.

Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
yeah i ran resistor box with the 450's.. yeha what settings do u guyz thing i should do for every rpm?
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Well first just try to get the car to idle normal. I'm not an SMC person and I don't know alot about them but just try lowering the fuel setting a bit at 1000 -2000 rpm and see if that corrects your idle problem. Then go from there.
Do you have any guages to help you out? If so, use those as a guide. If you have one of those flashy disco AF guages, remember those are not the most accurate tool for tuning. They give the most accurate reading at wide open throttle or increasing throttle, and the engine must be warmed up before it gives a correct reading. |
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
whats your settign for fuel at 1000 RPM?
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
hmm yeah i have a air/fuel ratio gauge and yeah its not to accurate at idle. well at 1k-2k i had it at -40 now i have it at about -25 but it still doin it. it sucks guyz.. everytime i try to start my car it takes a while..im scared this will mess up my motor etcetc. honestly my ride was more reliable with just and fmu.. all i had before was a fmu and fuel pump and i was runnin 13.5 safely.. any help??

Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
did u wire in a resistor box or inline resistors?
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
a resistor box

Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
So your car will start, it just takes a while? What if you tap the gass while cranking it over? Will it fire up quicker? You shouldn't mess up your engine, it just takes some tuning and figuring out how your engine will run best. It may have run better with the FMU but at least the SMC is a bit more reliable at 13 psi...

Damn... I still say your getting too much fuel. Is there any way you can lean it out anymore?

Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
ok i leaned 1k-2k to -15% and it still havin hard time starting. this is pissing me off. should i lean it out more?
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Okay, if you went from -40% to -25% to -15%, that doesnt sound like you're "leaning" it out. That's actually enriching your fuel system. Remember that the deeper you are in the negative, the leaner it gets. The closer you are on the positive, the richer it gets.....
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Yeah, can you go past -40? I don't know how far you can adjust with SMC.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Sounds like hes having the same problem as me honestly. Yeah -59% is the leanest. I'm having a hell of a time getting settings to idle worth a damn. And everything is so rich.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
hmm so the higher the % the leaner? im confused. all i know is that after installin this ---- my car is havin a hella hard to time starting. :(
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
Pull the plugs and see if your rich or not.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
hmm i was just runnin some foo today and my car is runnin pretty wack. imma put the fmu back on. so my 450's and resistor and smc is up for sale soon once i get it off. i just dont know how to tune it. but they all work.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
how much do you want for them

Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
thanks to thermalfi'd16 imma give this another chance. sorry for sayin that im gonna sell it this and that. but he's givin me faith lol :) ill let u guyz know how it goes.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
I dont really know how to set an SMC, but it seems that you are just getting confused with the tuning aspect. I also have no clue on how many "points" you can tuned it. I would try a -40% to -38% all across to get you started. If you need more fuel, then try -38%......
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
its for sale again. i just cant tune this ----. everything works fine. i got 450 dsm injectors, resistor box, and smc all for $200 shipped let me know if anyones interested. i will take these off when ever i get the chance to. thanks bye.
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
lol seems like everone has problems with their smc's
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
mine worked great for what it is...just takes a while to set everything...i ran 13psi daily driven with it...soon to be upwards of 18 after the engine is done
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
some1 correct me if im wrong.. but the whole idea is just this..
since you are using 450cc injectors you need to get them down to 240cc to idle fine like a stock motor. 450cc - 40% = 270cc 450cc - 35% = 292.5cc 450cc - 45% = 247.5cc trying to target 240cc for idle right? then you get the fuel up by using -35% for the rest of the rpm band ?? |
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
hmm.. will a fuel pressure regulator and guage help me in my situation?
|
Re:problems starting car with smc+450's after install
It probably would. I got mine idling decently at -47% (I got a vac leak and am dumping hella fuel) but someone said that equaled out to 240cc injectors. Try -47 through 1,000 (1,500 if your using the smc500) and like -38 or so everywhereelse. And watch your A/F gauge to make sure your not leaning out in boost.
