Problem with V-tec on a D16Y8

Hello HMT Comunity:

I have a problem with my Vtec System and ECU. I got a 1997 Civic Ex with the stock P2P OBD II ECU but i have the Vtec engaging by the MSD RPM Activator Switch with a 4800 RPM Engagement point. The problem i am having is that sometimes (recently ALOT of times) i get the check engine and the OBD II Scanner shows Vtec system malfunction. I was wondering if anyone here knows how i can Fix this without switching to a Hondata Chrome or Uberdata or a Apexi VAFC or VAFC II basicly by keeping the Vtec opening with the RPM Activator switch since it is brand new and was a head ache doin the relay wireing to change the RPM Switch from negative to positive wich is what its needed to open the Vtec.

no Vtec on the D16Y8 engine engages at 5800 RPM or close to it sometimes 5500rpm

nice they selling one here for 150 just dunno if to get it or not i managed to put 200whp 165ft tq. at the wheels with stock engine stock internals stock ECU but the VAFC manages to advance the ignition so i have no idea if my engine would be on the safe side with the AFC Hack. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2613986 there is the dyno sheet and car pics

I don't even know where to begin. Maybe you should unbolt everything from the car until you've read all stickies and understand them.

Do what the ancient Inca's did stare at this until you come to a sacred understanding.

and take anything MSD off of your honda and go with crome/uberdata.
Msd makes good stuff for old school v8s but all their ignitions and parts do is screw up a honda ignition.

I dont get it but w/e Ive ran the set up like that for over 1 1/2 years now just the v-tec thing is getting to me. 9 PSI is the threshold for these engines and the fuel management is being done with a 1:1 fuel regulator, 315cc Toyota MR2 none turbo injectors and just in case a 5th injector with a boost switch since i have the stock P2P ECU.

as for Chrome and Uberdata, 2 big problems with them:

1- i need a OBD I P28 (minimum or p72 , P73) and have the car converted to OBD1 either with a 92-95 harness or a harness converter.
2- No one in Puerto Rico tunes chrome and uberdata so that means i'd have to buy a laptop , rom programer and tune it myself wich between the lap top , rom programer and the other goodies = alot of cash

Um you can get willem burners cheap. all you need it an auto p06 and you'll have most of what you need to convert it into a p28. there are writeups on how to make your own conversion harness. And uberdata doesn't take much of a laptop to run at all.
