Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
http://www.-------------/te/basemap.htm
Ok, no more asking others to setup basemaps for you...no more whining because you don't know what to do. Follow this how-to step by step and use the tools that I gathered with it and you should be golden. If you make a basemap...post it, for other lazyasses to use :P Comments, questions, critiques welcome. If you find an error in my write-up, please let me know so I can change it. If your technique varies a little, post what you do so others can learn. Jason, maybe this should go in the FAQ for posterity? http://www.-------------/te/basemap.htm |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Nice write up! Thank a lot.. it helps out greatly. :D

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
My pleasure pimp daddy!
EDIT: Jason, maybe you want to ----- this link around on some of the other boards TE is prolific on...I posted in PGMFI and G2IC. |

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
i have a question...b. Difficult Way (but probably safer and more accurate IMO)
i. Open the stock ROM in TE ii. Open the stable ROM in TE at the same time, you will now have two copies of TE running iii. Now look at the column headings along the top of the maps, they are a little bit different. We need to account for this. Download my ‘Basemap Helper’ Excel Sheet below. iv. Copy and paste in the stock MAPS in the designated areas of the Excel ------sheet. The tables should do the calculation work for you. v. Type in the column headings that you see in TE into the Excel ------sheet on the bottom map. These will populate themselves. vi. Copy that calculated map and paste it into TE. vii. You can do this for both FUEL and IGNITION maps (2 separate steps part vi,copy into the stabe or stock.it just says into t.e.? ??? |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
The stable....because the column headings are different.
I will update so there is no further confusion. |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Thank You,Thank You :) :)
Now it makes sense. I have been playing around with the program and now I am sure I should be able to do this. I can fab up manifolds and weld down pipes but I am NOT a computer guy, but after following your step by step instructions I think I can handle this. 8) |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Any time you want to "fab" me up a downpipe or manifold...you just let me know. ;)
----, fab one up for Blundar so he can get his car back on the road! |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
If I ever get my Civic to run the way it should I have a long list of people that want stuff. When you have a welder you tend to have alot of "buddys". ;)

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
how do i open up the stock and stable roms at the same time? first i tried the easy way and once i import the stock into the stable the stable maps go away and i just see the stock ones
then the difficult way when i try to open up stable after already opening up stock the stock closes thanks edit* i just opened up turboedit again and got it to work ::) :P |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
hmmm new problem
i get the new calculations from excel, then i copy and paste them into the stable and they are fine...but when i save and reopen the stable rom the numbers keep changing for instance at 500 in -31 the number for ignition is 14.58 but then when i reopen the file it changed to 14.76 whats going on here? |

What you're seeing is normal. It's rounding based on the points at which the multiplier can actually calculate. - TurboEF9 |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Great write up man ! I just can't wait to get home to mess with TE again.
|
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
alright thanks man! i can't believe how much stuff TE does, can't wait to use it
btw awesome write-up |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Hopefully eventually I can get Jason's help in writing a plugin that does all of the stuff automatically.
Basically it would be a little wizard where you would pick which engine, which injectors, what boost efficiency and how to retard ignition and TE would do all of the work for you. Anyone that knows VB or the other supported languages for writing TE plugins might be more efficient than I though, so if you think it's something you could help with, let us know. |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Really wonderful job Xenocron, I'll definitely download that stuff. Thanks again for the heads-up.
Steve. |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Site is updated with new BIN file that has the boost cut bugfix.
No more boost cut....yeah! |

I also have another write-up I should have posted...here it is, Fuel Tuning tips.

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Nice, you guys are awesome.
|
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Just decided to pull this out and play with it, so good time for a bump.
If I had any pull in the hmt congress I'd vote for a sticky even. ;) |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
I added a section to the Misc Links for TurboEDIT related references.

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
what am I doing wrong? I've tried creating a basemap the difficult way 2 times and both times I ended up with a table of nothing but 0.00. I opened a stock map (pr4) and the stable map (ng28) and the excel ------sheet. I copy the fuel map from the pr4 map and paste it into the top table. then I begin copying the headings from the ng28 into the bottom table, as I copy each heading the values in that column turn to 0.00 where do I begin copying the headings from? the ng28 map is longer than the excel sheet.
|
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
you can only copy in the VAC tables...
the excel sheet should be setup for NG28 column headings already...you shouldnt have to change anything the only reason i did that was incase column headings ever change again |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
I made these two base maps yesterday but I only tried the PM7 one on the car so far. There was a dead spot it felt like just when boost started to come in.. Anyone have an idea what would cause this? Here are the two maps..
PM6 base map PM7 base map |

Tuning...or issues with the code. Do you have a wideband to show what AFRs you are seeing at this "deadspot" ? |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
I got datalogging setup in the ECU.. But I have to get my friends laptop to check it cause mine doesn't have a serial port.. But is using uberdata for data logging acurate enough with the stock O2?

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Alright, im going to be doing a basemap for my turbo set up. im going to be running around 6 PSI on a d15b2. When I import the maps from the base pm6 bin, and i set the stable bin for forced induction, does it automatically generate a baseline fuel and ignition map for boost? And is it off this baseline that i edit to get the AFR correct? Also, can anyone explain the ignition retardation to me? Thanks in advance. Im a noob to diy tuning.

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
Once again needed for research. Bump

Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
I was trying to use the excel basemap helper.. but when i go to type in the new headings some of the columns turn to 0.00s.. any idea why?
this is difficult because im just trying to convert the stock pm6 to a stable ng rom and i cant |

http://home.alltel.net/slacklin/igniton.jpg Play with the IF() statements in the code to expand the range. I HOPE to make a plugin someday for TE... |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
well im just trying to convert my base maps to the stable ng rom.. im not sure i understand the formulas in the code so i may be dead in the water with turboedit

"linear is safer but with a touch less power, step is a touch more risky but probably smoother and more power"
what, exactly, is the differnce between them? how is step more risky? |

what, exactly, is the differnce between them? how is step more risky? As Blundar recommends, step is a little more natural. We dont retard any timing until 3 psi...then generall .25 degrees every 3 psi. (6-9psi .5 retard) (9+psi .75 or 1) Linear resembles more what the MSD BTM timing retard devices do. |
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
I have a Basemap setup... If anyone wants it just pm me..
|
Re:Offcial "How-to" - Setting up TurboEdit Basemaps
i can make basemaps the 'easy way' no problem, but along with a few others, i'm not sure i understand the excel basemap helper? are you saying we really don't need to change toe column heading for the current codes, it's just an available option for a future code that may have different headings ??? so basically you can just copy and paste the stock map in to the excel sheet, then copy the new map it gives you in to the stable bin and you're good to go?? but you only paste in the vacuum maps, so you would actually only paste in over to column '0' in the stable rom? i may be looking too deep in to it, but it's confusing me.
