No need for BTM ?????

O.K. I'm going to be using the AFC hack and BTM method until I fell like saving for Zdyne. I have the AF but yet to buy the BTM. Now I'm hearing/reading that since I'm only going to be pushing 6-7PSI ( Daily driver ) that I don't really need a BTM and I can do it from the dizzy-> ( distributer ). If thats the case what do I set my timming light to. I have my ZC set at 13 degrees advanced TDC now my motor is still N/A I have the kit and everything I was just waiting on buying the BTM before installing it. What will the new setting be on the dizzy and do I really need a BTM ? Also this may sound stupid but is there any way you can hear or feel detonation ( sorry if I mis-spelled that ) How can you tell ? 1,000 thanks to all that help boost newbies.

yeah, you can hear detonation, it's a pinging noise and you'll know when you hear it. as far as how much to retard your timing, you need to set it back to stock and retard it probably about 5 degrees (1 per pound). i don't think there is any need for a timing light, each mm that you rotate the dizzy is "suppose" to be 1 degree. just fiddle with it until you get no detonation and you should be fine.

Detonation also souns like sand or marbles swirling in a can. Turbo cars pop through the exhaust when they are boosting lean/detonating... you may not be able to hear that unless open downpipe.

So you're saying I don't need the MSD BTM and I can just do it from the Dizzy since I'm only running 6PSI. I may turn it up to 7 or 8 max when ever I need to but 99 percent of the time it'll be at 6PSI. Thanks

Thanks Teg. you've been very helpful. I just talked to the guy I bought my kit from and he was pushing 6PSi with the kit I bought from him and he said he was pushing stock timming and had no problems. This is great cause I just saved myself $500 which is how much the BTM cost. Thanks again dude.

Yeah, or even get the 6BTM that comes with the ignition box for about $350. But it's still no $500!!!
