Nicks homemade AFC

Well this is my thread starter. I will continue to update this post as my progress goes along.

So far I got the hardware setup all the tools and chips needed, now its time to figure out how the map sensors.

I'm having a slight problem generating over 4v, depending on the range of the map sensor this could be a big issue.

If anyone has info on the map sensor such as the which wire is ground,+5,output line and what is the range of the sensor, it would help.

Sorry to burst yr bubble.. but what you're planning to do is not that easy.

I tried myself, and these are the issues I got:
First.. how I did it.. get input MAP sensor signal, lower voltage by some percent, possible to lower by percent variable to some preset voltage (like 0.3V).

Now... first you need to know how MAP sensor works.
At idle, it reads near 0.9V, at WOT (or when it reads atmosferic pressure), it's near 3V.

I used Honda Prelude injectors for my install (310cc).

The issues I had... first, it idles without problem, accelerated smooth.
But, when letting of throttle, MAP sensor should read even lower values (not lower than 0.2V or you'll get a CEL) - and after letting go of throttle, and pressing it again I'd get a backfire.
Also, another issue was if driving in for example 2nd gear and just keeping very low throttle just to keep speed at some 4krpm - it would sputter - this is because at that speed/throttle vacuum is pretty high (lower MAP voltage)..

These were the issues I had with my 'homemade AFC'.
It was a nice school though :)

But doesn't Honda map sensor not read 5 volt at atmospheric pressure?

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but this has already been done cheap and successfully.

Anyone else get something other than expected by following this link?

Dude, PGMFI hasn't been hosted on the CRX-Forum domain for a while now..

The home of PGMFI is.. http://www.pgmfi.org ::)

i figured but there was a link on that carolina hondas page that went there and I thought it was kinda funny what came up

No, Honda's MAP sensor reads near 3V for atmospheric pressure. At 10-11PSI (or near maximum that Honda's MAP sensor can handle) it reads 5V.

Has anyone ever built one of these? like the link above. does it work and how good. just might have to build one instead of using a fmu. if that fails buy SMC 500 since i will have the injectors.

Yes, XDEep has built one, it runs fine.
