Re:megasquirt
sorry guys, I don't need money :) ....just time!
If you post on the yahoo group http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/megasquirt/ I know a few guys are selling them pre-assembled. I really don't recommend buying one pre-assembled. By building it you learn your ECU inside and out, and are much better at maintaining/troubleshooting, and depending on your application you might have to make some simple mods, that are only simple if you built the original unit. I hadn't done any soldering in 15 years and I went out and spent $20 on some cheapo gear and a multimeter, and built it in about a day. A good assembler can build it in a couple hours. It felt awesome to hear the car start on it's first crank, running from an ECU I built myself :) Neil |
Re:megasquirt
does the megasquirt completely replace the ecu or does it use the stock ecu maps?
|
Re:megasquirt
It's a stand-alone unit, so it's a replacement. The default code doesn't do ignition though but there are a couple of projects that do fuel and ignition with the Megasquirt hardware.

Re:megasquirt
cool, so has anyone on here built one? what parts are needed to do ignition? I looked at the site a while ago and I still have alot to learn before I attempt this.

Re:megasquirt
To do ignition with a distributor you need a trigger wheel, pickup and an MSD box or a Bosch ignition module.
If you want direct ignition (wasted spark) you currently need a ford EDIS module, 36-1 missing tooth trigger wheel, pickup and coilpack. |
