I was wondering if there is any way to do this. all i have found so far is people saying that its possible but not explaining how or why its possible or what i have to do to convert to a map sensor.

the real way to do it www.diyautotune.com Megasquirt. You'll need a pretty extensive knowledge of efi to get it working though. all and all, it can be done, but not very easily. what car is this on anyway?

I drive a Mazda with VAF and i'm swapping to MAP. I'm using MAP-ECU. cheapest, easiet, and i'm pretty sure it'll work.

its an 02 spec-v. i need to switch to MAP because i have been told are mafs ARE very easy to blow because you have to tune it without it going over 5volts and basically that limits me to around a max of 8 pounds and thats pushing it on the stock MAFS. no one has a stronger replacement but is there a way to mod someone elses mafs that can handel boost to work. i beilive in theory if i get all the pins to connect correctly all it has to be is a 0-5 volt sensor. unsure how unrealistic that is or not. if you can do it or not please post your opinoin

you should be able to hardwire in a larger re calibrated maf, and run bigger injectors and be fine, thats how the maf mustang guys do it with boost, i know it can be done, but i cant tell you exactly how....

I have asked this question on other forums an have had some interesting replies but my car is similar to the DSM an they use a MAF so I am going to use a DSM I don't know if you could considering you have a Mazda. Sorry I can't be of any more help just an idea.

The MAP-ECU is supposed to work with MAF, VAF, and Karmann Vortex (what DSM uses) meters. Early Mazdas (mine) use VAF, and latter use MAF.

Mitsubishi makes most of the electronics in japanese cars...my mazda's electronics have little stars on em. according to posts i've read, MAF's on Mazdas can be swapped for some DSMs and Toyotas (Supra escpecially).

i dont understand.. the physical construction of the maf sensor or the electronic parts?
My buddy has a sick grand national.. they run maf and he has something called the maf transulator. It lets you run any maf and injector combination. Hes using an ls1 unit which is pretty big. Dont know if it will work for you, but i can ask him where he got it.

Denso makes the majority of jap electronics, which is good, because Mitsufeces' quality is job zero.

Keep in mind that some MAF (and the DSM MAS aka Karmann-vortex MAF) outputs are frequency based, while others are an analog Vout of either 0-12v or (more commonly) 0-5v. This is why we can put freq-based GM (Hitachi) MAFs into DSM with a little fangling, or Ford (hotwire/analog) MAFs into Nissans with some fangling. AFAIK, the only Supras I've dealt with are Mk3's, Supra MAFs are hotwire/analog units and the DSMs are all freq-based... they are not compatible with each other, so you need to be careful before you swap anything onto your Mazda.

This isn't even addressing the problem of calibrating the MAF output to the ECU...


PS - SERious, Spec-V engines have rods the size of Honduh D15's, compounded by those heavy oversquare slugs on the end of them. If your stock MAF can read up to 8 psi, shouldn't be a problem... I'm going to be a dick and say you engine can't even handle that.
