LM-1 Issues

hey guys, notice this place is where people who actually tune their cars hang, so im wondering how many out there use the LM-1 from innovate.

initially i was really happy with the unit, i tune megasquirt in the NW area, an have probably dont more than 15 cars over the past 3-4 years. been using the lm-1 the whole time. most of the time it work flawlessly. but recently i have been having nothing but problems.

they are not huge, un-fixable issue, but ------- a they are a pain when im out tuning an they just stop working. im wondering if its how many times ive used it, maybe im too rough on em?

first thing that would happen is he screen would just freak out, show crazy afr's 22:1 an up an flash back to the regular numbers i was seeing. after that it popped an Error 6 code i believe, could not reset the box, sent it in an got a replacement.

so while i was having that probelm, i borrowed an LM-1 from a shop owner im good friends with. no this box keeps popping Error 4 codes (open element i believe it says). try to reset it, nothing, un-plug an re plug in the 02, etc etc. nothing works. but a few days later, with the same cord an same sensor, it will work fine for about an hour or so, but then it pops up with the same error.

so it works, but its really not that reliable anymore. i replaced the sensor probably a year ago an that helped for a while. but i thought these sensors would be good for way longer than a year or two. i never use my sensors wth race gas, they are always installed in a bung, not clamed to the tailpipe etc. all sensors (2 now) an lm-1's (2) are stored inside my house 100% of the time unless being used.

Anybody else experiance similar issues regularly like this? the box just seems very finiky to me for a damn near $400 setup..

Bosch sensors are fairly fragile. I would say I replace my sensor every 10-15 cars...when it starts to bug out like that, generally it is the sensor.

If the threads are rusted or poor that can ruin a sensor, lots of condensation in an exhaust can ruin them as well. If you bang them around, drop on the floor...all of that can shorten the life of the sensor.

In the same car though, properly tuned and in the right position, they can last a while...they are an OEM sensor.

i try to really be carefull with the sensors, but the def do have a bit of a rough life going from car to car like a durty hooker..

ill replace the sensor an see if that works a bit more reliable. i get a good hour an 30min or so, then it wigs out, reset, then error code 4 pops up. bout 20min later it will work again for another 20min or so...still have to send the other one in to get fixed though haha

Innovate perhaps...if you bought it from a reputable dealer, they are very good about getting things fixed/replaced.
