JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
4 Attachment(s)
So yeah, i've managed to ---- up about everything there is to ---- up except tuning. I am pretty nervous to do this but im biting the bullet. I was talking with a friend, he pretty much told me I cant ---- a N/A honda motor up, and I know he knows what hes doing....so thats what motivated me to do this.
Im going to just keep updating this thread everytime I do something or learn something or need advice. (advice will be much appreciated) So ive been talking to Chris (xenocron) and hes quite the guy. Anwsered every one of my questions, and a really good guy. We sparked a deal and I picked up the following: Innovative LC-1 (with the sensor) (not in the pic) Moates burner Extra chips Moates hulog and of course a chipping kit Thanks again Chris! took exactly 1 week from NJ to Okinawa, Japan! Chris is an awsome guy! Attachment 28437 Attachment 28438 My car: Attachment 28439 Specs under the hood: Full toda everything. Stroked B16 Toda A intake, B exhaust Toda cam gears Toda springs/retainers Ported head Header Still my downfalls, cat is still there, stock B pipe exhaust...and I have a small crack in my Spoon header, and its untuned. :l I dyno'd it a few weeks ago, my rev limiter on the ecu now is no where to be found. Ive been well past 9500rpms and it just kept going and I let off the gas. So I hooked up my MSD with a 8k chip in it just for safe measures. To 8k im at 180hp at the wheels, estimated 204 at the flywheel...with still alot left in it. Not bad for a N/A B16. Id like to see 210-215 at the wheels, N/A. I know some of you might say 'thats homo, 210hp' but I say '---- you' :) I like my motor, I like my set-up, and I don't plan on boosting this motor. I have 2 GSR motors, and part waiting for boost. :) Attachment 28440 Once I get this car tuned, and I learn this stuff, I will go back to the dyno. I will update once I get the ECU chipped. Hoping for this weekend.... |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Cant ---- up an all motor car huh thats funny. There are magic #'s for dohc vtec all motor simple builds like yours. good luck finiding them :)

Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
yup. Cams are already tuned. Not worried about that...ill just work on the a/f ratios and the timing.

Oh and your 240's are maxed out at stock fuel pressure. 2 options bigger injectors or the way I role fpr set has high has its needs to be
|
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
I forgot to mention as well....my injectors are/have to be wide the ---- open. :l i'll be replacing those soon as well. :y I know those are holding me back...
So what would you recommend for shooting for with the timing? |

So what would you recommend for shooting for with the timing? Dont advance thats for sure. A properly set up cylinder head doesnt need timing to make power |

humm...ok. Hope your being serious, I wouldnt know otherwise. :P

Thats what I have learned. |

N/A motors that are set up well with polished combustion chambers and pistons with a decent amount of quench with high compression and a good intake velocity to fill the cylinders will need far far less timing than a stock motor. All that quench and compression gets the flame going across the combustion chamber really fast. It doesn't take much timing before you are too advanced. |

Word and it comes really into play when a cylinder head is flowin like crazy yo. Seriously though a head that is flowing over 300 cfm doesnt like timing. I just did a map stock h22 block ported manifold/69mm tb china ebay header that is killing atleast 10-15 whp imo dhracing ported head off the shelf cams I did a basemap for the car close has I thought from what I have done with the h series all motor tuning. Dave from dhr did the install on the head and cams I wasnt there when they dynoed cleaning up afr Im confident I could of gotten another 3-4 whp. Car liked a very mild timing map. Imo that car with a proper header,no exhaust and a real inatek is in the 235 whp range. Not to mention that dyno reads way low. The car is raping everything in hawaii. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/4...ea0005d1cf.htm mad vteccccc |

Nice, I'll check out the vid when I got off work. |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Ummm Frank....what the hell is that thing next to your tuning stuff? Looks like one of them god damn purse poodles. That ain't no fricking dog.

next step spend 2 hours on the dyno to gain .2whp :S

No the car is getting a high comp 2.3 block custom header and 270 whp. Ill be flying out to hawaii to tune the car |

An all motor car with a single throttle body shouldnt take more than 2 hours total |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
I was talking about JYR car.
|
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Dyno, ill take it back when its all done. the dyno time is pretty homo. $50 for 2 pulls. More for tuning, and they dont do it by the hour unless you have them tune it. I'll tune it on the street, like everyone else.
JDM dude: "you want a Power FC", I will tune for 25000y ($250) me: "---- your power FC" :P I dont plan on rushing into this at all. Slow and easy, and I will learn a little at a time. I'm still waiting on igy to get back with me to chip the ECU and put the datalog cable in. Theres a map on Chris' site, LSvtec, intake mani, ITR pistons, i think im gonna give that a shot for a basemap...and go from there. Henry: JDM doshound. (sp) Shes about 3.5 months old or so. Little thing thinks it needs to ---- with everything in site. :S |

get bigger injectors before you dyno

Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Only cars I tune are ones that a friend builds or mine so the cars are running perfect. Most wot these are not really street cars in the sense that you will drive to your grandparents in them so the good gas mileage etc isnt really an issue so if you want 30+mpg ya Its gonna take more time but my job is not to blow up a really pricey motor so its gonna run rich and Ill take the fact that its lossing power but piece of mind is more value able to me than 4-5 whp.

Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Lucky you!
Frank, the head arrived today, thanks :) |

Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
yeah, so I thought for sure that I would be able to come across an extra ECU to chip this weekend (after I thought about it, I want to chip a 'spare' ECU to have a 'backup' incase something weird does go south....
but I spent all day friday searching JY's, probably went to 10 different places, and low and behold, not one ------- chippable ECU to be found. >:( I couldnt even find a single cam, vtec (d15b) auto ECU :S Im going to search this evening for one, hit up a few more places that I know about, but rarely go to and see what I can come up with. I hope like hell I can find one. If I can find one, I will be burning chips this weekend! :y |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
*LOL* Your in jdm land and can't find an ecu. I found three P06's today in Kentucky.
|
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Yup. I cant find one dam ECU.
I have litterly been to about 25-30 yards since last Friday and no one has a chippable ECU. Who would have thought it would be so dam difficult to find a dam ECU! Ive looked in Civics, Integras, Ascots, del slows... Now I have about a week and a half to look. My buddy is heading to the states tommorow and wont be back until the end of the month. :( so now, the next question... Buy an ecu here for 5000yen (around $45) and have him chip it (which I have already bought the stuff to do that) or just say ---- it and buy a chipped ECU from the states and not continue to look for one? |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
Find one and chip it you'll save a lot of money. For myself I can find aq junkyard ecu and chip it myself for $50.
On finding ecu's it's like that like you'll see a bunch of civics they just dropped out in the yard and absolutly nothing looks to missing but the ecu will be gone. The trick to getting um is this most junkyards have a fenced in spot where they hold the cars and look them over and pull low milage engines and stuff like that if they have them. find one close to your house and watch their holding pen and talk to employee's and find out when it's going to the yard. and be there then. I do it and I get about three a month. It sounds like you go to junkyards as much as I do. Thats all you have to do. |
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
buy p06 or p28 and be done with it
hell even better find a chipped one on here |

Yeah I can se from what you said the situation is differant over there. Here if it's in the yard it's yours for the right price. I don't understand why they would put the cars where you could even touch them if your not allowed to buy the parts..That would hurt my feelings. :'(
|
Re: JYR's next adventure. Tuning. My on-going thread...
there are a TON of yards that are like that. Some places you can just walk into and grab anything you want. (the places where the ECUs are gone) Some places everything is all roped off, and you cant touch ----. I guess I can thank my fellow past time round eyes for stealing ----...which is why its like that.

Hey if it fits in yer toolbox it's free right :1
