Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

well first my idle got all fucked after i swapped my 89 si intake manifold for a z6 mani, then i snapped my alternator belt, then my radiator gets fucked, and now im bogging with the new setup. ok sorry for the rant. heres my problem. im using a z6 manifold with ls throttle body, thats the only thing that changed. for fuel im using the afc + 450's. everything was working great with the old manifold now im boggin past 6500rpms. it feels like when u get a map code but im not getting any codes. i loved my fift gear pulls and now they suck.

what do you think i have to re adjust to compensate for the new setup? i tried adding some fuel with the afc but that just made the problem worse. im having one of those days when u just feel like giving up on boost. man i hope this ---- is worth the headache. any ideas?

Renr, I'm no expert, but if the extra fuel made it worse, try taking some of it away. Also see whats up with the timing. The only thing I can think of when "bog" is mentioned is fuel/air/ or spark? Keep trying though. Boost is never worth giving up on. ;)

your right im going to try to lean it out some tomoro if i can get a radiator. if i lean it though boost will have to come down :-\

i doubt ill ever really give up on boost but this manifold idea is starting to suck.

Did you check the TPS sensor adjustment? If its a new TPS to the car or it was taken off and put back on, it might be worth checking out.

Like what was said above, did you check the TPS voltage? .45 volts at idle. You used all of the stock sensors that came with the Z6? Hmmm....Are you sure they all worked fine before?

ill check the voltage right now. the only sensor i used from the z6 was the iavc thing. the rest i swapped over. how do u adjust the tps or do i have to changer the whole throttle body?

ok on the safc the tps voltage is the third sensor voltage that says thrtl right? if it is then it reads between .18 and .2, what do u think doc?

Wow, that is very low. It should be ~.45ish at idle. I don't know if I would trust the AFC though. I could never get an accurate reading from mine. It was always different then checking with an actual meter at the TPS. I don't think the IACV will affect anything above the 6500rpm you say this is happening, so I don't know what to tell you. :-\

BTW, are you getting that reading when the car is running or when the key is on, motor off? Do you have that VAC diaphram that gives it gas when the VAC is low? That will ---- your readings up.

Re:Im having a shitty day, please help.

you guys are genius ass bitches ;). it was the tps.i dont have a voltmeter so i was just going by the afc. i unscrewed the tps and moved it a little so it would it at .46 and took it for a spin. it was hauling ass, then after about five minutes it started to bog again an i checked the voltage it was at about.55 so i gues it moved. im giving up for today though ill fix it tomoro.
i owe all guys some beer. thanks :P

Re:Im having a shitty day, please help.

hey dr boost. i cant pm you for some reason. any ways i measured the voltage again. at idle when the car is runing the voltage is .45-.47 and with the car off but the ignition on its .5-.52 ? the vaccum diaphram you mentioned is diconnected.what voltage should go by? thanks

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

Hmmmm.....most people measure it with the motor off. Did you remove the VAC diaphram or just unplug it? If it's just unplugged it is going to press the throttle slightly open.

I think as long as the TPS is in the area of .45 it should be fine. Did you use a Fluke this time or are you still using the AFC for readings? I don't think they give an accurate measurement, at least not for me.

the diaphram is gone completely. ya i measure with the afc. hmm ill try getting a voltmeter tonight. i cant beleive that little POS is causing all this. :-\

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

i readjusted the tps and took it for a spin, and well its still bogging like a lil bitch.i dont know what else to do. do you guys think maybe the ls throttle body is too big for my setup? i just dont know what else to check >:(

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

do you have your old throttle body? its a pretty easy process to swap to the old one... the new manifold opening is prolly bigger, so it wont bottle-neck... try that? maybe the tps on he old TB is better than the Z6 one?

y49crxsi 04-26-2004 11:54 PM

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

Well, teh a6 tb wont work on the z6 manifold, and he said he is using all the a6 sensors instead of teh z6 ones, except for the iacv. YOu didnt happen to maybe damage the injectors or anything while swapping over. Coulkd be anything.

RENR 04-27-2004 12:36 AM

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

i really hope its not the fuel injectors. the car does feel ok up until past 5.5k or so. then it bogs like ----. ill try the old tps again too. i thinking of taking off the entire manifold and doing it over. dam i hate this ---- mang :(.

Re:Im having a shitty day, help. one more question please

Could the TPS voltage affect the AFC settings? Kinda shooting in the dark here since I don't know much about AFC's but doesn't the afc read TPS voltage to know when to change maps? Maybe you should reset the AFC.
