i feel like a mad scientist-uber tuning

finally got my obd2-1 issues worked out and spent tonight street tuning. nice afr in 13's dropping to 12.5-12.0 from 3.5k to redline. still running the base timing w/ 0.75 degree of retard. next i'll work on the timing. i think i'll drop the retard to 0.5 (i was running 0.33 using the afc "hack") and maybe bump up the timing a little in vac.

cruising in vac below 3.5k i tuned for high 14's to low 16 afr. egt's look great too in and out of boost. hoping to get even better gas mileage than i was before.

Nice, whats your setup? Any Dyno plans soon?

d16y7 w/ y8 intake manifold and throttlebody, td04L w/ std/hr manifold, starion fmic, dsm bov and 450cc inj. i was running the hack and had approx 180whp/170wtq. i'm not necessarily looking to get much more w/ uberdata except piece of mind and partial trottle boosting.

Sounds like a good setup. I know for a fact that running Uberdata over the AFC will give you reliability and part throttle boosting. But even if you wanted to tune for more power, at least now you've got that option and full control. It's a beautiful thing ;)

PLEASE I BEG YOU!!! post your bin or PM it to me. You using 1.65 or 1.66? I am running almost the exact same set up.

sorry i didn't get back to you...was on business trip and upon return internet was down for almost a week. looks like you found the bin i posted on uberdata. i've just recently changed the retard to .50 degree/lb. i still need some more fine tuning and time to strap it on the dyno to see what i'm getting.

have you used the bin yet? how's it work for you?

Re:i feel like a mad scientist-uber tuning

Im in the process of putting it all together. I removed my A/C, converted to a P06 and did a 3 wire to 2 wire IAC conversion this weekend. I also bored my seals for my 450's. I'm having trouble getting the bolts out of my turbo to clock it correctly. Hopefully this week I will get the ECU chip ready with my kit from Moates. I have already burned your .bin to a chip with my Moates burner, so its ready to go! Did you use 1.66? I hope so! THanks for your input! What size is the turbo you are using? Mine is 48.42 Saab unit. My Tyrus FMIC should be here this week!

Do you think your map would be good for say 7-8 psi?

scttydb411 05-31-2004 09:30 AM

Re:i feel like a mad scientist-uber tuning

i'm using a td04L...not too much bigger than what you have. i'm running 10-12psi so it'll probably be good for a useable basemap, but you'll still want to fine tune since all cars are different. it's going to run pretty lean cruising...i'm trying to experiment with fuel economy (15-16afr 2k-3k rpms at light trottle). it'll drop to mid 12afr dropping into boost. that bin also has .75 degree of retard...i just recently changed my recent one to .5 and now experimenting with bumping up timing off boost and the low end of boost.

just keep an eye on a wideband...don't assume that it's safe until you see what it does with a wideband...there might be enough differences in our cars for it to be too lean for your car.

good luck...let me know how it runs.

I don't have a WB. :( Should I richen it down low?

scttydb411 06-01-2004 09:38 AM

Re:i feel like a mad scientist-uber tuning

that's the problem with not having a wideband...you don't know where it is and then if you want to richen or lean it out you don't know how much to do it. find a dyno w/ a wideband or someone that has a techedge wb and check it if possible. then make your changes. that bin you have was change number 7 after i made my basemap.
