How many of you street tuned with a/f gauge and chipping

I am just learning about tuning with uberdata, and sense a wideband is ------- expensive, and i dont have a laptop, how many of u just took your car out and kept a eye on the a/g gauge and then went back to the house and chaged ur setting buy burning a new chip and so on, i know this whould take forever but i got forever so

basemaps are no where near tuned.

ok ok i know this, but im saying, if u have a basemap, then u go out and drive a little and keep a eye on ur air fule gauge and see where ur lean and ----, then go back to the house, and tune on uberdata , burn chip, take it out and try it from there

Re: How many of you street tuned with a/f gauge and chipping

If you trust your self with a gauge that has about 90% error. I pulled that number out of my butt, but seriously it reads like 14-1.9 a/f and that is about it. So the answer is no.

ok so pretty much the only way to street tune is with a wide band

You are catching on.

Honestly don't even try it with a narrow band, you aren't doing yourself any good.

Narrowband AF lightshow gauges are the ---- yO! Its like you have a rave going on in your car all the time 8)

I tried doing it that way last fall and it just kept getting worse every time I burned a new chip. You really can't tell if you just a little lean or WAY to lean. I would find someone with a wideband or take it to a dyno. ;)

Not pretty much, it IS the only way that you can tune it.

you can NOT tune anything with an AF gauge. throw that thing away.

reading a stock narrowband o2 sensor for tuning is about as useful as shitting in your hand and throwing it at the toilet, instead of sitting on the damn thing in the first place.

Re: How many of you street tuned with a/f gauge and chipping

i know this is kinda a retarded follow up, but keeping in pace with my other lowballer tendencies, is there a cheapass wideband option? i was looking around and there all like 350$-400$... :-\... thats like half my monthly income..

Re: How many of you street tuned with a/f gauge and chipping

I got a PLX-300 for just over $300 shipped... If you can't afford it, there are some cheaper ones that I won't comment on because I don't know anything about them. Or, maybe you could get a couple of buddies together and go in on one together to share. Or buy one and rent it out to said buddies?

But back to the original question, my A/Fs are all over the place, so unless you're the terminator with electronic eye data-logging computer ---- going on, there's no way to know what your A/F is doing visually. I can barely keep up with my WB display... I know it's expensive, but sometimes being totally cheap in the beginning ends up getting REAL expensive in the end.

a/f gauges are stupid.

if u dont have enough money pay like 100 to borrow someones for a few day s or have them tune it for u. dont be stupid.

Just a heads up.... Autometer will be coming out with a gauge-type wideband 02 soon!

It should be out some time this summer and be in the $300 range...

I'm getting one for sure!
