how to control 450cc injectors?
 

Hi, how's everyone? I have an 86 CRX with a DOHC ZC. I'm going turbo(IHI-RHB5 off a Subaru). I still haven't run it yet. I purchased some correct inject 450cc from Tuner Toys to avoid FMU. I heard that I'll be running rich in just bolting them on. So my question is: What options do I have in controlling these injectors? I've heard of Apex VAFC, Hondata,etc... I'm on a budget and wanted to know which do you recommend? I'm new on turbo,still learning, and that's why I need your help. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. Also, do I need high pressure fuel pump? Mine's external, any recommendations? How about pressure regulator? THANKS!!!!!!!

FAG, oops I mean FAQ, check the FAQ. you will need some sort of control device to scale down the output of the 450s, espicially at idel

afc, smc, trailer park afc, hondata, uberdata, turbo edit, you have many choices, it all depends on how much you want to spend, and how much boost you plan on running. read the FAQ in the 'engine management' section.

I'm thinking on getting APEX SAFC. DO you think I still need a high pressure fuel pump or will stock one work? How about pressure regulator? I'm planning on running 7psi. Maybe 10 later on. THANKS!!!!

450s with a SAFC will be enough for 7-9 psi. no fmu, no badass fuel pump, etc. The only reason you should replace your fuel pump is if you are worried about your stock fuel pump taking a ---- under the increased fuel demand of the new injectors.

86, is that obd0 or pre-obd? If you are obd0, look into turboedit since you are on a budget. But if you go down that path, get ready to do a lot of reading before you get started. If you are in a hurry, hack it.

So is obd0 harder to work with? Will S-AFC work like in obd1 or different? Can you give me an idea of what to expect as in upgrades to be done or mods? I know it's harder cause it's an old crx, and parts are harder to find and performance parts as well. But I love my ride. Owned it for 6 yrs now. It deserves an upgrade. THANKS!!!

since you're obd0, you can chip your ecu and use turbo edit to tune it, the easiest way to explain it is that it's like hondata. all you'll have to do is buy the parts to socket your ecu (about 10 bucks) and socket it, or have some one on here do it for you for a couple bucks, if you know nothing about the program and tuning it you can have some one burn a chip for you for a couple bucks, grand total 20-50 dollars. or you can actually buy a chip burner for about 70 bucks and figure out how to use the software (it's free) and burn your own chips and be able to tune it accordingly, either way, you still only pay a little over 100 bucks, which is less than a used afc and 100 times better. if you're interested in this, you need to start reading like d16 tuner said, there is a sticky thread dedicated just to turbo edit at the top of the page, once you get the basics, people will help you work out the kinks, but like he said, if you're in a hurry, just get an afc, cause it's easy and you don't have take the time to learn about turbo edit, it's up to you, but you would thank your self for learning turbo edit :-\
