Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Well.. heres the setup. y7, obd2, 14b@8psi, secondary o2 sim, MSD BTM, BKR7ES-11's (gapped at .34), dsm 450cc black tops, inline resistors, aem fpr @stock fuel pressure (35ish w/vac attached), Walbro 255lph intank pump, settings -50 :o. I went to a dyno day to figure out why I wasnt pulling after 4k rpms and see what exactly my a/f was doing. The car feels fine out of boost and idles/drives rich but livable. At full throttle the a/f went below 10 and never came back and my car owned the shop with black smoke. I made like 52hp!!! :-[ I recently did a tune up so I dont think thats the problem. I know my wiring is right and the afc sensors are picking up very accurate info. It seemed to get worse after gapping my plugs to .35 but it was always way rich like this. I'm about to go obd1 and uberdata'ed, but I'd really like to know why things are so screwey. No CEL except a rich/lean cel that only occurs at Normal granny driving.

Thanks for the help. I need all I can get. Compression btw is from 187-185ish all the way.

Bad injector?

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Its a possibility. But I kinda doubt it since I knew who they came from. And all of them seem to click and pulse.

you sure you cut te map line and not someting else?

BlinD 05-02-2004 09:35 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Positive sir. Infact the afc reads pressure perfectly.

using the resisror pack?;lol

inline 10watt 10ohm. I've replaced em like 4 times along with clips to make sure they werent the problem.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

I honestly think its gonna be ignition related. Since its only crazy rich at full throttle. And gapping the plugs seemed to make it worse for some reason. (Got new plugs on the way from clubplug)

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Does the problem occur in the high rpm range? If so check your settings on your afc and make sure u hit next on the fuel tables. I forgot to do this and my power would cut out up top because the settings were still at 0.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Yup.. settings are there. But it only happens really when boost builds up/when you floor it.

Throttle points?

Number of Sensor points?

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

im thinkin something different w/ fuel pressures.

so many "bandaids" on that motor.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

My th point = lo: 49%, hi: %50.

What you mean sensor points?

Well I'd say fuel pressure as well if it wasnt for my fpr and fuel pressure gauge at a stock setting.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

The number of sensors.. in/out.. A buddy of mine had to put 7/6 in stead of 6/6. Try that.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Hrm.. I'll give that a try. How will I know if it worked/didnt work? Mines on 6in/6out

whats your fuel pressure with the vaccum line off?

BlinD 05-04-2004 09:29 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

like 42

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

check your tps voltage, lil tip from the drboost.

BlinD 05-05-2004 05:50 AM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

What should I check it for?

RENR 05-05-2004 09:11 AM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

with the ignition on it should read .45volts and wot it should be 4.5v. when my tps was messed up i was running rich as hell too andi was boggin out. just something to look at.

BlinD 05-05-2004 04:32 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

it reads like .32-.42

BlinD 05-05-2004 06:40 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

What could be causing this problem? Its driving me crazy.

RENR 05-05-2004 06:57 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

it should be .45-.47, .32 is low. try adjusting it a bit.

BlinD 05-05-2004 07:21 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

You do mean check it on the afc sensor check correct? Also how do I adjust it? And why would it be off if it never was before?

RENR 05-05-2004 07:39 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

you got a point there, its just something to look at. its held on with two screws, just loosen them and adjust the tps. keep an eye on the voltage with the ignition on while you move it, and youll see it changing. i just know that fixed my bogging. ;)

BlinD 05-05-2004 08:32 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Well. If my voltage was messed up. Wouldnt my throttle not be at 0% at idle?

RENR 05-05-2004 08:38 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

my throttle would be at 0 at idle but at wot it only would hit about 97%. have u checked that? if its at 100 it should be ok

BlinD 05-05-2004 08:53 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

ah. yeh mine does 100%

88crxSi 05-07-2004 09:24 AM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

OEM fuel pres at idle is 28-30psi.

BlinD 05-07-2004 04:31 PM

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Fuel pressure depends on altitude. But it should be 35-40psi.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

You say its only when boost builds up, yank teh msd out and try again, thats the only thing on your setup affected by boost, so it could be wired wrong. Try removing it or disconnecting it and try again.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

what's the btm set at? i accidentally hit my knob once and it moved to 2* or more and gave me some issues. seems silly, but it had me scratching my head for a little bit.

Re:Having trouble with my afc setup.. Wayy rich.

Mines not that far. Like .70 per lb.

i heard the BTM will not work with AFC hack, (just something i heard before)
