the turbos are the cause of oil burn

stock engines are good for more than 300 if you know which you're talking about

It's a flat-4, Jon. Think about it.

i worked in a subaru garage for a year and have known everyone at that garage since i was a child. the only time oil was added to cars, was when oil changes were done.

I know this thread is pretty much dead, but I figured I'd add on with the EcuFlash comments as I'm pretty much the only mitsu based user of it on here.

EcuFlash does have the definitions for the lancer models in the rom metadata, however to turbo it some physical changes have to be made. First and foremost is the maf...plain and simple the lancer one is not large enough. You would have to upgrade to an Evo 7/8/9 model maf and rescale accordingly. Injectors and the latency voltages also need to be changed as well, depending on the injector size you run. More than likely using the stock 560cc Evo 8 injectors would be your cheapest alternative and you could use the stock scalings from the 94170008/94170015 roms. The injector scaling is roughly 87.9% of the actual flow rating. You will also still have to recirculate the diverter valve between the maf and the turbo. I'd highly suggest going over to the Evolutionm site, they have a specific section just for Lancer's.

The more MAF cars I tune, the more I dislike MAF for any performance application.

Really? I have had limited success on a sti. I just recieved my brand spanking new 2 Ostrich 2.0 and am about to try Nistune on a few things. I have map tracing and datalogging.

Craig was cool enough to upgrade my old 1.0 to a 2.0 and gave me some money off the other one I purchased.

If I come to the conclusion that the if the MAF's suck as you stated I am going to talk to the creator of Nistune to see if there was any way of switching from MAF to MAP.

It's all just an analog signal right?

I have heard that the trick to tuning the MAF's is datalogging and scaling the MAF correctly. I am in no way questoning your knowledgeability. Just looking for input

It's just an analog signal, sure, but the actual code has to be gutted and redone./

Most of my MAF problems are poor MAF placement causing problems, but I still don't like it./

'04 STi has a speed density patch you can run, it's set up like a % VE deal like Megasquirt and fairly straightforward to use.

The Evo crowd has a working speed density patch as well, but some of the tables added and changed to run a map sensor really aren't quite right. Subaru maf's aren't too bad compared to most, DSM mafs seem to be the worst IMO. The biggest issue like Jon mentioned is scaling the maf every time you change intake/filter setups as every one affects the maf differently. My biggest gripe is most turbo maf setups is that they tend to have the IAT sensor built in to them and only read incoming temps before the turbo. Overall though maf setups seem to have an easier time idling with large cams and the part throttle is usually relatively smooth. After a while you start to see maf-based load percentage tables in the same light as a normal speed density table lol.

I've never had a problem idling big cams with speed density. MAFs often don't work right, but maybe that's all the Nissans people bring me.

What are you using for the Nissans you tune? Or is it pretty much what ever they bring you?
