Default detonation

i have a A6/Z6 with 450's and a vafc, i have the timing all the way retarded and i am still getting detonation. is any one else had this problem? i was thinking of tring a adj. cam gear to see if i could get it to go a way.

how much boost are you running, what are your settings on the afc, what octane are you running?

try setting your timing back to stock, too much timing retard can cause detonation too. for only 8 psi you really don't need to retard the dizzy much if any. a lot of people don't start retarding until about 9 or 10 psi on the hack. do you run stock plugs? i would set the timing back to stock and get a step colder plugs and see how that does.

try setting the timing back to stock and going from there, that's a lot of retard for only 8 psi.

Do you have an intercooler? If not, that's the problem. The SAFC is causing your ecu to run your timing waaaaaaay advanced and you can't retard it enough at the dizzy to compensate for it. Intercooler would help, getting rid of the SAFC would help too.

i'm sure blowing your engine to pieces is a lot easier than chipping an ecu so knock yourself out there
