Check my map please

1 Attachment(s)
I have been breaking in my engine and playing with my map. So far I am only taking it up to 5000 right now and have been working on the part throttle. I have the AFRs around 14-14.5:1 off boost and 12.5 pretty solid underboost. I was just wondering if anyone would mind taking a look at it and double check the timing to make sure it looks ok.

I have a DOHC ZC, Supertech Pistons 9:1 CR, stock head/cams, Saab .42/.48 turbo, 2 1/4" DP, Jacki Chan front mount. I still need to make a set of det cans but I am trying to not rip on it to hard right now until it is good and broke in. O0

Just rember, hi vac, and hi rpms and it will break in quick. Go find a bunch of big hills, and go down them.

Re: Check my map please

Really? Never heard that one before. I always heard climb hills in a high gear. Just load the engine up and crawl up the hills.

Hi Vac realy helps seat rings.

TomBones 10-12-2008 09:21 PM

Re: Check my map please

I think the rings are seated already. I have about 300 miles on it. No smoke coming from the exhaust anymore. Only smoked for about 30-40 miles. More worried about the bearings.

who breaks in bearings? go rape that bitch

TomBones 10-12-2008 09:25 PM

Re: Check my map please

Fair enough, no smoke, go romp on it :p. Just let me know my map looks decently safe for timing and I will go rip on it tonight O0

your timing tables look similar to mine. should be safe. but im not tuner, so i cant say, and i have no idea about the fuel. :)

looks fine to me.

Re: Check my map please

Consider this pig raped!!! Just took her out and ripped on her. I have changed the map up some. I had to add some fuel and then I pulled some timing based on some suggestions from somebody over at pgmfi.org. So far the car runs decent. Started getting lean (mid 13s to low 14s) after 4k rpm so I backed off. I have added some fuel and I am going to go give it a try. Feels like the boost should hit a lot harder at lower RPMs. It never really slams you into the seat but it is more of a steady pull all the way threw the RPM range. God danm I need a set of det cans. That is on the list of things to do tomorrow. Here is the timing I am dealing with now.

how much boost you running

theidealone 10-12-2008 11:22 PM

Re: Check my map please

i was gonna ask the same question, but saw his map is only open to 11.2, so im assuming hes running the stock map sensor for now.

Yup. I still need to get a bigger fuel pump and 3 bar map so I can crank the boost. Right now I have it set to 7lbs. I will be putting the boost controler on it tomorrow and cranking the boost up to 11lbs *yawn* Once I get the new map sensor and fuel taken care I will be strapping the Holset on it and cranking it to 20lbs O0

looks good

how much where the pistons i never heard of them and are they forged?

TomBones 10-13-2008 02:28 AM

Re: Check my map please

$450 with rings. Yes, they are forged. Check out their website. They are pretty bitchen. Lurker just made 429WHP with the same build as me with them. Here are some pics of the actual build.

found it thanks ya but whats their limit.. well i see the good they dont expand as much so how much piston to cylinder wall you running on them

Re: Check my map please

damn. you pulled an ass load of timing. my tables shows 20 in the last box, on 10 lbs. dohc zc, stock internals...

TomBones 10-13-2008 10:54 PM

Re: Check my map please

Put a little timing back today I did crank the boost (well, if you could call it that) to 8 lbs. Seems to run prety good. Doesn't spool like it used to but I think that could be timing. Will work that out later. I did rip on it all day today though and I am loving it. Can't wait to get this thing cranked up even more. >:D

Don't trust the map to be displaying useful data in the timing tables. They are not what the engine sees.

Can you explane some more on this theory?

On my sohc zc, I was pushing 22 - 23* of timing above 4000rpms, And I was running about 12lbs. Oh and it had stock internals.
Once I got my afr's good, I just started bumping my timing .5* at a time untill I heard a toutch of det, and backed it off 1* to be safe. Raped on it for over 20K hard, hard miles. Pulled the turbo off and thew the motor in another car N/A, and its still running.

I think you are taking forgranted the fact that I am not such a noob taht I wouldn't set my base timing prior to tunning, so yes,the maps would and should reflect the timing the engine sees.

Re: Check my map please

uh no.

you are using an engine management that does not have the ability to turn off the stock honda ignition advancement that is being added on top of the compensation tables at all time. Table timing and actual timing are very different.

table timing does not include IAT, ECT, TPS, gearing and other ignition corrections or the stock honda ignition advance. With crome, it is not a firm representation of actual timing which is what makes plug reading so important.

your 18* of timing on the high cam at 11psi of boost is probably more like 25-26* of timing that the engine is seeing depending on how you have the rest of the advanced table compensations setup.

fior instance. Old motor was a stock bottom h22 with crower cams and Neptune. Table timing showed 30* and the actual timing going to the engine was 40+. Thats without the honda advance disabled. If you have the ability to remove the honda advancement, the tables are more of a true representation but still do not include the other advanced table ignition corrections.

That makes sense. I forgot about all that junk. :1

Re: Check my map please

all good. Once you get to using a program that can really allow you to fine tune the engine, you really realize what you were missing out on :P
