Can an auto be chipped?

Ok, I have a Prelude and it's an automatic. I plan to boost it and run a P06. But I'm wondering if it will be a problem since my car is an auto. From what it looks like, most people can't create basemaps for autos. Can anyone verify this?

Here is what I will be running:

Things I have right now:

Rebuilt stock H23A1
Stock Injectors 240cc
Garret/ AiResearch T3 Compressor: .52 A/R Exhaust: .48 A/R
Tial 38mm Wastegate w/ 5psi spring
Cheap Intercooler off Ebay 2.5" inlets bar and plate
Stock fuel pump
P06 ECU (still need to chip)
Custom downpipe and manifold

Things I still have to get:

2.5" Piping kit
Knockoff HKS SSQV BOV
Oil feed and return kit

I know I need to get bigger injectors and the turbo is probably kind of small but that's what I have right now so I'm going to use it. I will also probably get a new fuel pump. I'm on a budget so I'm going as cheap as possible.

So I guess I'm going to have to go with an FMU and missing link or convert to a standard. I just don't want to blow my engine with and FMU.

i think he meant yup as in yes you can chip your ecu...

dont plan on doing anything with 240cc injectors though.

Re: Can an auto be chipped?

I knew I could chip the P06 but xenocron said

I am not sure how the P06 is going to react with your Auto TCU. Do you even know if you have an Auto TCU?
Here is another question. The TCM is the same as the TCU correct? I just want to make sure. Here is a pic of it. https://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a...e43110/TCM.jpg
I got the P06 out of an auto so I was thinking it should be ok. I was going to have xenocron make me a bassemap for my setup. But from what he said, it seems that he cannot do it. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I read that the stock injectors are good for up to about 180-190 whp. Do you think I will make over that at 5 psi?

I have never seen an auto car run on a chipped ecu.

You could always use an AFC and a BTM.... I guess.

there was one eg coupe that had a boosted auto z6 on d-series.org. pretty sure he was running chrome but not 100% certain as to what his management consisted of.

THREAD JACK

Ive allways wanted to boost my auto hatch, but not sure if the tranny will hold up. Any one got any input on how well honda auto's hold up to boost?

Re: Can an auto be chipped?

You can run a 5spd ecu on an auto just have to upshift

all editors run on 5 spd code

My 95 coupe auto held up pretty well :)

PUT A COOLER ON IT THOUGH AND NEW FLUID before raggin on it.

There are a few people I know of running Civic ECU's in auto Accords (also have a TCM/TCU), so I'd say you'll be ok. I don't think you'd need/want an auto ECU though. The TCU handles all the shift up/down and converter lockup functions... so the auto Civic ECU would have nothing to do. The Accord/Lude does tie into the TCU on a couple pins (as I recall they're labeled EXPECT shift UP/DOWN) which prolly (if it works like DSM's etc) just tells the ECU to cut back timing for a couple seconds while it shifts.. to be easier on the tranny.

Re: Can an auto be chipped?

Yeah my delsol was a automatic running a 14b.It ran fine, except the lock up solenoid's didn't work.I was running a 5 speed ecu tho.If your car has its own ecu to run the tranny than, i do not see why it would not work. All the d series auto trannys are ran by cable to throttle linkage (except i think 96-2000)i know for a fact 88-95 do.The lock up solenoid are read by the ecu, since we civics don't have a tcu.Just convert the p06 into manual 5 speed and chip it.

Re: Can an auto be chipped?

on accord/preludes, you can run a chipped p06 on uberdata 1.7 repack 2.2 and 1.6 without a problem.

reason is, they have tcu's, which operate somewhat separate from the ecu.

Re: Can an auto be chipped?

As far as I know...the best way to do this is to run an AUTO P75 ECU because it was actually originally designed to work with an Auto TCU.

The Auto P06 ECUs were never ran with Auto TCUs...

There was a post in this forum by SQ_Squad or something with a decent little write-up on doing it.

FWIW, all ECUs, auto or manual basically run the same code...jumpers in the ECU tell it if the ECU is auto or manual and what to look for where. Auto Code / Manual Code...its all the same.
