Basemap help

Alright guys I need a little help with my boosting project... i know all about turbos have been around them for as long as i have worked on cars, but as for the ecu chipping etc im lost... but my question is im getting my ecu chipped by xenocron and when you send your ecu to be chipped he will run a basemap and the following information is needed - Engine/Turbo Combination
- Injector Size/Brand used
- Fuel Pressure at idle (hose off)
- Rev Limiter settings (please specify, dont just say 'stock')
- Launch Control setting if desired
- Idle RPM (OBD1 only)
- VTEC activation RPM (if applicable)
- The stock ECU that came in your car (if it is different than the ECU you are providing)

My setup is stock d16z6....14b mitsubishi turbo...hf manifold...dsm 450 injectors..2.5" downpipe and fmic piping..stock fuel pump... planning on running no more than 7 to 8 lbs of boost... so if anyone can give me some help on filling out the information needed it would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Basemap help

what tuning method are you using just the chipped ecu and fine tuning with crome or uber?
is the turbo kit pretty good i mean power and realibility wise for the setup you are using?

Re: Basemap help

For a stock z6 motor you might want your vtec engagement a little lower than 5400-5800.

Re: Basemap help

So from what I understand the basemap is almost dead on point what my car will need to run properly..and the things such as uber and crome are for fine tuning to add more fuel..retard the timing things of that sorts correct me if im wrong..im not saying the base will be perfact but will be close to what im looking for right ??

Re: Basemap help

No from what I understand a basemap will only allow you to run the car and limp it to a tuner or will be a halfway decent start for you to tune it yourself.I imagine a basemap would be pretty rich in a/f and the timing would be very conservative and retarded more then it needs to be.

Re: Basemap help

well, every setup is differant, every motor is of a differant condition, and there are differant climates etc all over the US and canada, so a basemap is nothing more than a way of getting a car running in order to tune. theres no way to know if it will be very safe, or not safe at all. some people will make them very safe which is good if you are going straight to a tuner, and some will try to get it close to perfect by guessing, which can lead to problems. a basemap should never be used to run a car w/out the understanding that its not meant to run the car efficiently or for any period of time.

Re: Basemap help

alright i understand now..In tuning with crome which is what im going with if you understand the concept of turbos and engines etc. is using the crome to tune difficult or pretty user friendly ??...one more question what would you guys suggest for a good inexpensive wideband..??

Re: Basemap help

well, if you have no experience, and dont know how to read maps, and know proper a/f ratios, and timing curves, its not a great idea to do it yourself w/ out someone watching over you to make sure you dont kill it on the first pull.

Re: Basemap help

yea i understand there is no way i would even attempt to do it myself...im just asking to learn the program is it pretty user friendly or is all the steps pretty complicated etc...

well, on a basemap i wouldnt. i mean, if i intended on driving on it i would, but just a basemap to get it to the tuner, honestly i wouldnt even hit vtec, so i used the stock setting.

Re: Basemap help

Sounds good to me I dont want to blow it up before i get to have some fun....how much power are these motors typically putting down with the setup im going with..done right that is ?

z1guy 06-13-2006 10:59 PM

Re: Basemap help

tuned you should see anywhere from 150-190whp on 7psi.... good luck, and by the way, TQ is what will make it fun, not the HP.

Re: Basemap help

Whats the good luck for dont think it can be done or just hard getting there ?

z1guy 06-14-2006 08:21 PM

Re: Basemap help

nah man, good luck as in "good luck" hope nothing goes wrong, and it all works out. not a "good luck" as in it will never happen.
