I'm giving this guy a basemap, and his car's not turbocharged. It's a d15b7 with CAI, DC Header, and some no-name exhaust. He lives in Michigan (close to sea level). He wants more power.. How much can I advance timing in the timing maps at the top end (over stock)? 5, 10, 15 degrees? And I assume i'll need to add fuel whereever i'm advancing timing to help prevent detonation, right?

i wouldn't add more than 2 or 3° at the most without being present, and no, you don't really have to add more fuel. adding fuel is a band aid for timing related detonation, too much timing + too much fuel = *** :P

on another note, tell the kid he's a idiot and the whole point of chipping your ecu is to be able to tune it. i'm 99% sure no matter what you do to that chip without being present to tune it will get him 1hp at most, but hey as long as you set his rev limiter higher, he will feel/sound faster :P if you're feeling lucky, go ahead an pull some fuel up top too, maybe a couple degrees of timing and lean it up a little will help out a bit, but i doubt much

Personally I would never sell a chip to anyone without having tested it on the same setup. You can't just guess what sort of timing an engine likes. Guessing on it and telling him it's anything other than a guess that may blow up his engine is in my opinion negligence on your part.

ProjectTeg. I think your sticker is wrong. I wouldn't call uberdata an EMS. It's tuning software to modify an existing EMS ie, Honda's.

I do agree with the guessing, the only time I do that, is to get them a map that will get them to a tuner, and that is about all.

And uberdata is an EMS... whatelse would you call it? It sure as hell isn't a piggy back. But engine management solution sounds ok.. :P

I've tuned enough engines that I have a map to run most. Usually I travel to the builder. Otherwise a boost cut at less than atmospheric is definite!

I only hope that you're not selling this chip to some stranger. If you are then they're being fucked by an incompetant "tooner" You can't just make ---- up and hope it will suit an engine you've never seen.


What would I consider Uberdata? Uberdata is tuning software. That's all. An engine management system needs firmware, hardware and I suppose tuning software. So how can you consider a very small component a "system" Don't get me wrong, I use uberdata all the time and I think it's great, I just wouldn't consider it an EMS.

would you call hondata an ems? by chipping the ecu and forcing it to run off the rom that you have programmed it with to manipulate almost all sensors used to run an efi engine any way you want, i consider that an ems, just not stand alone. the fact that the stock honda ecu and sesors are used are being used for such programs doesn't disqualify it from being considered an ems, you're just using the circuitry and sensors that you already have without having to make the system from scratch

Hondata is an ECU modification. Even they describe it as a "modification/enhancement". Engine Management System would need to include the hardware to "manage" the engine. Since i work in the industry I can say for certain that my company builds "Engine Management Systems" The package consists of an ECU with firmware and tuning software. You can take a bare engine, hook this up, add fuel and power and it will run. The same can't be said of uberdata or hondata.
