All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code 21
For some reason now my car is randomly throwing these codes whenever I let my rpms go above around 6000 rpms and there has to be a good bit of load on the engine...like at full throttle. Its throwing both codes at the same time. Any idea whats going on?

Alternator?
ELD would fire because of a lack of current in the system right? VTEC might not be able to fire the VTEC solenoid if the voltage is lower than 12v Random guess really... |
Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code
thats what i'm thinking. Any idea why it would happen at high load in high rpms and not at other times?

Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code 21
Nope...my car is doing this ramdom weird thing where the battery light goes on in the higher RPMs and I think thats alternator too.
Not sure why it happens in the higher rpms... |
Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code
well whats weird is that this has happened ever since i tightened the alternator belt..which was squeeling from me not tightening it enough in the first place after swapping in my new motor. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Sounds like a correlation to me :)

Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code
do you know if having the alternator belt too tight or anything would cause a strain on the electrical system.

Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code 21
No i dont...but common sense tells me it could.
Try playing with it...loosen it up a touch. Maybe its too tight and slipping at higher RPMs ??? |

yea i'll give it a try today.

Re: All of a sudden throwing 2 codes. Code 20 Electrical Load Detection and Code
Ok well loosening it didn't work. It just made the belt squeel. Now that i tightened it back up it still squeels so it looks like its time for a new alternator belt.
What about disabling ELD through uberdata? Is this a bad idea? It seems like it would just be like cheating and overlooking the problem that is present. |
